So I have heard it said that dating is bad in New Jersely, New York ... and it got me to wondering where's the best city to be single. To wit ... Forbes has a yearly list of he best cities for singles.

Surprisingly, New York tops the list?

Yet it has 40K more single women than men? That's great if you are a guy, but not liking the odds if a woman. And the cost of living ... wheweee.

So I wonder, maybe if we don't like the place we live and date now, we should just change it? I mean it's not like you need a particular job, is it? And a particular match who really suits you, that might be the hardest of all to come by? A job (even in this recession) might be easier to find?

Just sayin.

Well here is the list for whatever it is worth.

While in theory I would move for quality of dating partners, in reality I have to live where my job is.

In the event I am able to find a better job, I will have to live where that job is.

Sadly, the jobs I can find have been moving me further from places where the excess of women are ... I wonder why?

Actually, moving to a better dating location is slowing moving up my agenda. I'm moving out of the workforce some time over the next few years and the companion I'm looking for doesn't seem to be living in my area right now.

Ahem. LA has the highest percentage of singles and is #2 in online dating. NY is #1 in online dating but a mere #3 in percentage of singles.

Therefore I live in the singles/online-dating capital of the US. Well that's depressing! Why isn't it going better! LOL.

(In my mid-30's my mom sent me a newspaper article saying Anchorage had the highest male to female ratio, and she suggested I move there. Doncha love moms!)

I think I'd do much better in a big city, but I like the feel of the country ...

Consider Fort McMurray. It's Anchorage with big money.

About as useful as my father sending me a copy of The Five Love Languages For Singles a few years ago ...

Maybe more? :P

LA is the place where every guy expects to get a 10 with all the pretty starlet wanta bes running around.

New York, the odds are stacked against women with something like 40,000 more of them than men, but the Forbes list looks at a variety of other factors, such as dating activities, costs and so on.

For women, I would pick Seattle or maybe Denver. Chicago, Minneapolis wouldn't be bad either.

According to a US singles map by the Boston Globe some time ago cities where single men outnumber women by at least 40,000 aside from LA include San Francisco, Seattle, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin and Houston.

The reverse break, for the guys, exists in NY, New Jersey, Memphis, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and DC.
