(I posted something similar to this in another thread and thought it would be a good thread on its own.)

Ladies, please do not look at relationships in terms of Sex and the City! I think a lot of women are having a hard time "finding the one" (and thus causing men to have a hard time "finding the one"), because many women these days see their lives through the prism of the god-awful show/movie.

"Mr. Big," Aidan, and the rest are not real people. They do not exist anywhere. Stop putting men in categories. We are individuals. Some women may be shocked to learn that they are not Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, or Samantha.

Sex and the City has warped the minds of more women than anything in the last 20 years.

Women who see their lives in terms of the show are "Stepford Wives" of the other extreme. Instead of "Stepford Wives," perhaps we should call "Sex and the City" mindset women "Manhattan Maids?"

I am only half serious, but still at least half serious

I'm not sure how many women out there base their dating expectations on what they see on "Sex and the City," but I can tell you they wouldn't be women I'd want to date. To me, that's just the easiest way to deal with it.

I have not seen either of the SATC movies, but I saw all of the episodes of the TV series. I actually think the dating scenarios are pretty realistic, especially for the NYC scene. What I disagree with, along the lines of the point you're trying to make, is the notion that all men can be categorized into the personality types portrayed on the show.

My point is that NO man can be put into any one of those personality categories. We are individuals.

It is like the madonna/whore complex but for men... like the "Mr. Big/Aidan complex."

OP: what do you base your statement that the show has warped women's minds? Do you think you saw some general change in women from before vs. after the show aired? I can't say as I've noted such a specific change.

I tend to agree with tbesq that what is portrayed in the show may best pertain to a specific demographic, such as young/middle aged professionals in Manhattan. That just isn't my dating pool.

It sounds like you also need to have your mind unwarped?

Mmmmm, shoes!

And no, I think Sex In The City is just trash. Definitely NOT my dating handbook!
