OK, this is going to sound like I have no clue what I'm doing, and in a way, I don't. I'm sort of in this long distance relationship with a woman I went to Cancun with a month ago (my blind date trip, as many will remember). I'm going to see her next weekend and sort of feel like I should bring her a small gift. Its not her birthday or anything, but just something I'd like to do. She did take me to Cancun, after all. She was here last weekend for a visit and I took her out to dinner and pampered her a bit. But I'd like to come up with a small, cool gift for her. Maybe this is completely unnecessary. Am I overthinking it? Suggestions?

you're overthinking it... completely unnecessary... women like that !

bring her a bouquet of flowers. simple, thoughtful, and what a lot of women like. Any other gift might be too personal.

If she likes to read and you know which genre she favours, you can get her a book.

Well, seen as you never updated your "she's coming for a visit" thread with details about how it went, I'm sorry...I'm not going to give you any advice...

We had a deal.

A book sounds nice. Maybe even a nice bottle of wine for the two of you to share on your visit? Does she have a particular hobby? Find something that speaks to her, as her, not just as a woman.

I agree with TheThinker--give us the details and we will give you suggestions. Come on, spill it! (other than we relaxed by the pool and enjoyed other indoor activities...)

If you are getting her a gift to get her a gift, then I think it's silly.

If you saw something you wanted to get her, then got it for her, that'd be different.

Have you ever heard of Love Languages? You might want to investigate this. Receiving gifts is one of the five Love Languages. It may or may not be her primary Love Language. If it is then giving her gifts all the time is what you are going to have to do (just a hint here, taking her out to dinner or anywhere else is not giving her a gift. Neither is taking a bottle of wine if she invites you to dinner.). If she has another primary Love Language giving her a gift is not going to be getting you many points.

If you're traveling a considerable distance to see her (I realize she drove to your place last time) that should be gift enough.

I think bringing a gift is overdoing it. If you do some window shopping or strolling through a tourist area and she sees inexpensive earrings she likes, for example, then offering to purchase them for her would be a nice gesture.

If she says she doesn't want you to buy them but she's not emphatic, then you could say it would make you happy to purchase them. That should work. Whatever you do, don't pat yourself on the back later for it though -- it should be a selfless gesture, and you don't seem like you'd need to brag about it later...

Good luck!
