Had a first date yesterday and it wasn’t the greatest. It was awkward, conversation was tough, her body language seemed pretty closed, I sure mine did too since it seemed so awkward. It seemed like we had a lot in common but no real sparks. It ended w/ something like hope to talk to you again; I’m really not sure what to do next? Forget about or make an attempt to contact? I’m not sure if she is interested in and don’t even really know if I am.

Any advice?

If I find "awkward" as the only problem, I prefer to meet again (if the cost of the first meeting was shared, otherwise I cut my losses.)

If the problem is lack of attraction, I have found that attractions does not develop, and it is best to cease with that match and move on.

i think it is nice and a good thing that you are worried if you are leading her on.

if you contact her and she says yes go on another date. try not to read too much into it. just go and have fun. that is what i would do.

I would ask her out again. The reason I say this is that I, and a couple of my friends, have had really bad first dates that got better with each date. I have a cousin who couldn't stand her husband on their first date. He asked her out again because his mother said he should :-) They've been married for 15 years.

She may have been nervous. I am typically nervous on first dates and sometimes it shows. It really can't hurt to ask and if she says no, then it wasn't meant to be

Hi there OP,

I would for sure give it another try, and perhaps even have a few more dates. First dates are always tricky, you're nervous, she's nervous, etc, bad day at work, not feeling well, other thoughts, etc.

But the key is: within a couple of dates, you need to feel something. It's hard to describe this, but listen to your gut. If things don't feel right after a couple more dates, end things amicably, and move on.

Hey, at least you tried, and gained more experience.

Good luck, keep us posted.

If in doubt, ask her out. (I like that! It rhymes.)

Sometimes it takes two or three dates to decide if there is a connection.

I'd try talking on the phone a little bit or through e-mail before asking her out again. This will let you two get to know each other better in a more comfortable environment for the both of you. It will also allow you to gauge whether or not either of you are interested.
