I was talking to a match, and he mentioned he went on a first meeting with a match who had gone on 96 first dates in the last year. (I'm not sure which dating site(s) she belongs to, or which one he found her on...) He found that a deal breaker. I'm not sure what I think of that, other than she has way more stamina for dating than I do.

Thoughts?

And for the record, her first meeting dates were never coffee, always dinner, and according to her, the guy always paid. She did mention it saved her a bit in groceries.

Wow...

If I was on a date with someone who told me this, I'd probably ask why she was telling me this or I'd say "correction 97" and leave.

I'd see it as a sign that she must not have very high standards. Its also a sign that she has commitment issues or severe personality defects since none of the dates led to a relationship

If she had the opportunity to go on 96 first dates in a 365 day span, there weren't many second dates. I have a hard time believing that she couldn't find one of those men to build a serious relationship with. Therefore, I have to believe that this serial dating has a financial motive -- namely, to have men fund her social life. I'll pass.

It seems extreme, yes ...but I'm not at all surprised. IF it is true, this woman has made a career out of dating and will likely never find anyone 'good enough' (and, if she does, it likely wouldn't last long) because there's always something new just around the corner.

It would be a dealbreaker for me as well.

I'd like to know exactly in what area she lives where there are actually 96 single men. It's hard enough to find one, much less 96!

All joking aside, that does seem a little extreme.

Hmmm.....96 dates in a year means roughly one to two dates per week - in the grand scheme of things not that much, especially if you live in a metro area.

Given that with the online thing you have no idea if you'll actually be attracted to the person you are meeting and the reality being that let's say roughly 80% of the time either you won't be or the other person won't be, add in the usual crazies, clingers, recently divorced, fresh out of a relationship and still crying about their ex, only looking for a one night stand or something casual, poofers, etc. and 96 dates without meeting someone where you mutually want to date each other is not all that strange........

Perhaps she considers meeting new men to be a hobby?

Sad to say, but some members of dating sites seem to be more focused on the process than on using it as a means toward starting a relationship. I've met men who seemed to be in this category, and it struck me that they might be creating self-defeating boundaries (i.e. over-the-top high standards) that would make even the most wonderful, compatible match undateable in their eyes. I've also wondered what they would do if confronted with the possibility of a second (or third, or 23rd) date with someone they met.

Maybe what she was really after was 96 free meals.
