So it's "Movie Night" and you and your date want to go see a movie. Do you go rent a DVD from Blockbuster or NetFlix? Order a movie from Video On Demand? Or go to the movie theater? The latter option is the most expensive. And you'll probably wind up buying popcorn and a drink. Then, you'll sit down and get to sit through those annoying trivia questions that keep looping over and over again before they finally start showing about 12 movie previews. And, finally, the movie starts. Now, if you watched a movie on DVD or On Demand, you don't have to leave your house except to rent a DVD and you can pause for bathroom breaks, food breaks, drink breaks, other breaks, etc.

Which do you prefer?

Movie night at home can be much more fun.

But there absolutely must be popcorn!!!

Can you say leading question much?

It all depends on what sort of movie I'm seeing. Some are best watched curled up on the couch, others are best experienced on the big screen. I can't say that watching Avatar on a television in my living room holds any appeal, for example.

Although the result is the same, this is apples and oranges here. It is NOT about the movie, but about the experience. It is also NOT about the money. Its about having a good time and the setting to have a good time.

If you're watching a DVD at home, you are at home. This is a relaxing night in. You sit back in your pajamas, or whatever you want to wear, kick up your feet and just enjoy the movie on your TV.

If you are going to a movie theater, this means going out. This means being in a darken chamber with a screen that most people will not have in their homes. And surprisingly said, the fact that there are other people, strangers, make this a different experience. This also means the sound and experience of the movie will be that much better, and lets not include if the movie is 3D or IMAX or both.

Lets take another example. Would you rather watch the Super Bowl at home in your living room, or be at the stadium watching the same game.

The result is the same, but the setting and experience is vastly different.

Theater for sure! I love big blockbuster movies with lots of explosions, so I want to see them on the big screen with booming surround sound. That's way more exciting. Plus, I don't get out very much.

If it's very early stages of dating, I would want to go out any way --> especially if we hadn't gotten to the point of going to each other's places yet.

Movie night in is nice, but I prefer that for an activity later in relationship stages when we are hanging out more and more together, with it less formally being a date.

BTW: I don't care for popcorn or the candies sold at the movie theaters, so I tend to bring my own snacks. That's where the big purses come in handy!

For me, it depends on how long I've been dating the man.

I prefer movies in the theater when it's a 3rd or 4th date. Generally I meet my dates at the location we decide on in advance or over the phone. I prefer to not invite strangers to my home...this goes back to when I was a single parent and didn't want the unknown man meeting my kids right away.

After a month or so, I'll invite the guy to my house for dinner and DVD's and talking and maybe necking-forget the movie.

And popcorn is always available at my house!

If I actually want to watch the movie? Then the big screen is most definitely preferred... In the theater, I can focus on the experience of viewing the film and get taken away by it (just don't be chomping any popcorn in my ear!). At home, there tend to be too many distractions for that.

Watching a movie at home can be great, too, but it's a different sort of experience than going to the theater. And, as others have said, some movies are just not made to be viewed on the small screen.

Going out to the movies really doesn't have to be very expensive (especially if you use coupons), so that doesn't factor much into my decision.

Oh! And I love watching the previews in the theater...lol.

If I really cared about the game, viewing at home is a far better experience, especially if you have a decent-sized TV. Anyone who's been to NFL games knows that.

Half the people at the Super Bowl probably don't care about the actual game.

I find it just the opposite. At home, I don't have people talking, babies crying, people kicking my seat, people standing in front of me, cell phones ringing, 8 maids a milking, or any of the other annoyances that take place at the movies. Plus I can take a break without missing any of the movie and I can eat and drink whatever I want.

For me movie night at home is past the initial testing-the-waters phase, it means getting more intimate and i think makes a definite statement about where we are and where we're going as one of you is feeling comfortable enough to invite the other into their safe zone, not quite at the point of giving them their own drawer and putting an extra toothbrush in the bathroom, but on that road.
