normal is not a dirty word. and it is nothing to be ashamed of.

and normal should not be confused with common

extracted from merriam/webster's on-line:

common: occurring or appearing frequenty, falling below ordinary standards, second-rate, lacking refinement.

normal: according with, constituting, or not deviating from a norm, rule, or principle. conforming to a type, standard, or regular pattern.

here is something i wrote earlier this evening for a different venue:

"normal has nothing to do with common. normal conforms to a standard. a standard is how something should be. it is not deviant. it is what one measures by. normal conforms to the standard and does not deviate."

just because one continually is confronted by common does not make it normal. just because normal may be rare does not make it aberrant.

i think we often have our priorities and expectations really mixed up around here.

Hmmm, someone told me the other day that I was not normal. Would that mean they think I am deviant?

I have my faults, but I've never thought I was a deviant person.

normal can be rather boring.

rules were made to be, if not broken, at a minimum have their limits probed extensively.

I try to conform to a certain standard that I consider normal, but when I do conform to it I am considered abnormal by most everyone
