In reading another thread about men's expenses for dating, being the same as a woman's. That fair is fair, and all things should be equal, I had a dating experience yesterday that I think summed up my opinion on the topic...

I went out on a date and looked really nice, my hair was nice, dressed nicely, smelled nicely, the whole nine yards... only problem, I didn't have time to paint my fingernails. The nail polish on them had chipped (I had a mani/pedi a week before, but they messed up the base coat). Anyway, I try to always look in top form. But, on my date last night, the guy commented on how my nails were not manicured ! It kinda bothered him.

Men have certain expectations of women, so I personally think it okay for women to have certain expectations of men. All things aren't quite equal are they?

In all the women in all the seaports in all the towns in all the word, that I may have met but will not admit to meeting ... I can't say I ever noticed her finger-paint!

Wow, jussmile! I don't think I've ever had a man notice my nails. I always kinda figured that I was doing them for myself because they make me happy. Doesn't sound like the nicest guy to me. I mean, would you comment on it during the date if he hadn't shave as closely as you thought he should?

I don't care for paint unless it's French-style.

No. Nor do they need to be, in my opinion.

The guy was a sweatheart... yes, he was a nice guy. This is just the kind of thing he expects from women he dates... just like I would expect a guy to pay for a date (I don't care if he doesn't shave...). That's my entire point about the whole, "who pays" issue... people just have different preferences, and typically, I believe that like-minded people find like-minded people. That is why I had no problem with him having a problem with my nails not being done. IMO, he had every right to look at them with a twisted eye and ask (jokingly), what's up with the nails?!

I knew before I went that I should have had my nails done, but just didn't have time.

So, I have another date tonight... best believe, the nails will be done!

They are if you make them so. Perhaps he thought that since he was paying, he shouldn't be embarrassed by second-rate grooming.

'Tis a doubled-edged sword.

(and this is mostly tongue-in-cheek and meant lightheartedly, but your example proves my POV as much as yours)

I'm sorry, I didn't have time to work enough overtime to give my date the dandy dating welfare check she is seeking.

So, under that constraint - which obviously takes far more time than painting you fingers - would you advise her to give me a second chance?

Interesting... almost insinuates that he would be "embarrassed" whether he was paying or not, but could only comment if he were paying.

Should I paint my own fingers, and thus entice some equity from women?

Sometimes, I'm just too brilliant!
