Every day there is someone posting questions about the rules. These are the rules! Have I broke a rule? Blah blah blah. See here is the problem with this idea that some people know the rules, they are not the same rules as someone else knows.

So say you want to play by the rules. Wouldn't this be like two people playing scrabble, one with the monopoly rules and the other with say battle ship? This cannot work! I mean you sunk my battleship!!! No honey if you look you will find you landed on boardwalk and I believe there is triple letters involved.

People actually wonder why they end up alone. The English language is confusing enough. Add to that the layers of laws and codes. So now we must have rules of dating.

Good news, I have a solution. Everyone put your rules down on paper. Every last darn one of them, I don't care how many trees you kill. This is about finding true love after all! Now take your rules and post them on your eHa profiles so that any potential date can verify that you are using the same rules as them.

They can even add a section to the communication called rule reconciling. You can go back and forth merging the rules into one usable statement.

This will be a great benefit to all, even those of us that don't believe in rules of dating. After all we can look at your profile and avoid you. More than that we get to skip a step and get to the good stuff quicker, ya know, the date.

So what do you think? Is this a great way to clarify the rules?

Yes, we definitely need this. And we need more Rules! So I can break more of them! *grin*

We can clarify the ones that are already there. “No games!” and “living life to the fullest!” will finally be defined in a politically correct, non-denominational, *thorough* manner, once and for all! We can set punishments for breaking the rules (no sex for a month!). We can stage Dr. Phil style interventions for Rule Reconcilement. And we can put codicils on the amendments for each and every fight...

And the sad part is, I know people that already do that!

Actually.....I was thinking recently about a scenario in which 'The Rules' might work on me. By 'The Rules' I mean the idea (and an associated book) that women should make a man chase her, not call him but instead make him pursue her etc. Generally, men on this site state that these kinds of things wouldn't work on them, and I tend to agree.

However, one scenario in which it has occurred to me that these types of things might actually work on me is if the woman appears to be acting this way seemed to actually have an interest in me but was simply shy and too timid to be more overt or aggressive. In that case I might actually find a woman not being readily available in this way quite appealing. It's when the being 'hard to get' seems to come from an attitude of arrogance that it is a turnoff for me.

if you've been in the dating world for >1, or have dated frequently on and off... you know the rule is that there are no rules. I was married 15 years, was young when I got married... didn't date much before I got married, and now, as an adult am newly entering the dating world. Every where I turn, people are saying be careful about this, watch out for that, don't do this, don't do that... I figured... there must be rules and everyone knows them except me.

Thanks for clearing the air! Phew!! I thought there was a conspiracy going on!!

Excellent idea Jo-which I promptly stole.

I would settle for a stickied post in the dating forum linking to Important Topics that have been covered ad infinitum already by 1000s of posters before you. Ie, Who Pays for which date, Why they poofed, why it's silly to arbitrarily wait 3 days to answer an email, Why Nice Guys aren't nice, how do I tell if he's a Player, blah blabbedy blah blah.
