Things that bruise a man's ego -- this list seems a bit odd....

I noticed this article:

9 ways to unintentionally bruise a man's ego - CNN.com

OK, the "pointing out the gut" one I can see, but the rest of these I'm struggling with.....or maybe it's just that I would never do or say these things to a guy I'm with?

Thoughts?

I was turned off when he said Bon Jovi sucks. Helloooo Bed of Roses anyone?? YouTube - Bon Jovi - Bed Of Roses

Also, laughing during sex can be great if you're with the right person. It's just another aspect of sex.. funny things happen during it. You laugh. End of story. What a drama queen.

Thanks Katie for your post.

OH and I meant to elaborate on one of the points -- about paying for things...that's why I put this in Dating. I thought men WANTED us to pay for things?

Though I imagine it's more the snide comments about the paycheck or whatever that the author is referring to (again, I kind of can't imagine anyone saying stuff like this!)

So, guys, a follow up question -- has the manner in which a woman has offered to pay for something ever upset you? For those of us who prefer to keep the financial score more even in dating - do you have any tips to keep us from hurt or hard feelings in the process???

1. Point out the gut.

Agree!

2. Insult his job.

Agree!
3. Compare him to an athlete.

This one I don't get. Why wouldn't you want me to say I think your arms are big and sexy like Mark McGuire.... oh yeah.

4. Compare him to a musician.

Huh? If I had a crush on John Bon Jovi and compared you to him, say THANK YOU!

5. Compare him to his father.

Maybe, but really? If you don't see it then you aren't facing the truth.

6. Buy him big clothes.

Hey! I'm a bad judge of sizes on men! Don't blame me!

7. Compliment someone he hates.

Can someone say insecurity?

8. Treat him like he's poor.

Ehhhh, maybe. But really, I don't like feeling like I'm poor either.

9. Laugh during sex.

But what if it tickles!?!

Interesting list. Not so odd imo. I agree, there are one or two things I wouldn't have thought of in the first place.

I've experienced #9

When I'm focused on task at hand () I don't want you to suddenly start laughing and say "Hey...a Mexican, a Chinese guy and a nun walk into a bar..."

It breaks my consentration!!!!

I wouldn't mind being compared to my dad though....I look up to him, so being compared to him is a good thing.

I am actually quite self-conscious about my gut among other things (...no not THAT thing!!)

His "nose" is growing again. Tee hee.

You've never had something funny happen during sex that you laughed about and then just continued? It can be great too. Without bar jokes.

This was a totally bizarre list. Many of the items (don't talk about The Gut) are just common sense - I certainly wouldn't appreciate a totally frank appraisal of The Thighs, after all - but c'mon, some are waay too sensitive.

But what kind of insecure body image does a guy have to have to label parts of his body "repulsive"? Jeez louise!
(I have to admit that I don't find te$ticles repulsive at all; I'm rather fond of them. ) Offering to pay for things? Admitting that he's not a threat to Jose Canseco or Vijay Singh? Pfft. The writer tells us more about his own issues than the general masculine psyche, I think.

Really now. Is a man so insecure, such a wilting, delicate flower that I have to worry about "bruising his ego?" That's not a man, it's an adolescent boy.

I agree Spider I think so called relationship expert is a little too sensitive and is projecting it onto all men. My intuition is that normally a guy will hear these kind of criticisms--except the maybe father one-- if they approach women at a bar or club and she is not interested--it's a way to get him to leave. Nonetheless, I have to say that a good come back is always necessary in this kind of setting.

Environment: Bar
Her: You're no Brad Pitt.
Me: Right, maybe after a couple of beers you'll begin to look like Angelina Jolie.

This is just one example. There are comebacks for all of them.
