I guess I'm a cat person. Never lived in a place where I could really have a dog...a 31 foot sailboat and a puppy don't mix very well, and condos aren't much better. Especially when dogs aren't even allowed in them.

I think I just understand the cat mind a bit better. Don't ask me why; in many ways they're somewhat like women (*hides!*) in that they make perfectly illogical sense. Ever notice who the cat goes to in a room? Yeah, the person paying it the least attention. *hide!* again =).

Cat's and I have an understanding of personal space. We hang out, but as equals; I'm not the master, and neither is she, no matter how much she thinks she is. A belly rub often reveals my dominance in a matter of moments! (By coincidence, this has worked on women as well...*hiding still*).

Now, for a sociology test. Now that I've made this not only a pet question, but gender has been brought up, we'll see if it lives up the hefty "fight" claim in the subject line!

Pretty soon we'll be fighting like...cats and dogs?

I'll shut up now =).

Well, my bulldog is male, but the mini-mutt and the cat are female. I personally prefer male animals (DON'T YOU DARE!) just because I despise the whole going into heat/populating the county thing. I do agree with you about the cat mind....Houdini is quite fickle, and right now, she treats everyone as her personal scratching post/chew toy/ tree that she climbs- from foot to shoulder! I adore her, but still tend to be partial to the bulldog....although walking him is a JOB!!! (he's like 75 lbs.)

quote/...Cats...now they have their own schedule. You never know what they're planning. They don't like to commit too heavily to anything. They can just change their mind in a flash. They act like they love you one minute and the next minute they've vanished /unquote..

change 'love' to 'interested' and that's how I feel about some of the matches I've had.

I'm a cat person, can't live without one or two, yet I'm the one who brought home the 90lb dog. Go figure!

I grew up with dogs and love them totaly. However when my kids where young we lived in an apartment and I didn't feel it was proper place for a dog so we got a cat. It was so cool and had such personality it was fun. Every day I would be the first one up in the morning and it would run to greet me. At the time I only have fish now but I could definitely go either way on this.

So says the human that is doing exactly what the cat wants him to do.

Maybe this is some new meaning of the word "dominance" that I'm not familiar with.

Up until last year, I didn't have any experience with pets at all - my brother was allergic growing up, and when I moved out I was in roomate situations where I couldn't have pets.

I work for a college, and there was a stray living behind one of the dorms who had kittens. One of our student workers took them in, and needed to find homes quickly - so I ended up with a kitten. She makes a good pet for me - fuzzy, cute, and occasionally affectionate, when she's not trying to bite me or destroy my furniture... And she's pretty low maintenance.

So I guess I've become a cat person. I've even thought of getting her a friend...
