Dating site for beautiful people expels 'fatties' after holiday weight gain - CNN.com

Wow, just - wow. What do you think about this?

I have a theory about this but I'll post it after you guys share some of your thoughts! Hint: I'm having a rough time keeping a straight face as I type this....lol.....

Well, that's not that surprising, right, because I've always read that as a population the US has the highest percentage of overweight people....

It's only to laugh at but I guess that if they didn't stick to their rules then it would end up as any other dating site, which is not their aim.

Fat for their standard, but I'm sure they're at least a 9 by our standard...I'd say send those people our way!

Kinda like shopping at Nordstrom Rack....brand name prices at discount prices!

Eh. I mean, that is the point of the site, it's for "beautiful people". It's not like the people joining don't know the rules and conditions for the site.

Something a bit off about this.

According to the article, folks who join must gain a certain number of votes within 48 hours of their profile being uploaded. It then states that over 5000 folks were booted after gaining weight over the holidays.

I don't buy this.

Either the article is incorrect and folks are constantly voted on, say every month or so, or these people were never voted on the site in the first place.

The first makes no sense, as I don't buy that such an exclusive site has so many members that 5000 "beautiful" members are going to gain so much weight as to be booted, nor that people will upload new photos every month, vote on folks every month, etc. So... I suspect the second is true.

In which case, they weren't "booted" from the site, nor did they gain weight over the holidays. They were just normal folks applying who didn't get in. I'd love to know how many folks didn't get in in say November? I'm guessing about 5000. So... these people didn't necessary fail to get in because of holiday weight gain, they could have been overweight prior to the holidays also.

In either case, the article is terribly written and misleading.

They should rename the site, though. "Beautiful" to me is the person, not their looks. They're looking for athletic people only, right? Or at least ones that look athletic.

The fact that most were from the U.S. isn't meaningful without knowing how many members are from the U.S. and whether proportionally more were booted (although it certainly wouldn't surprise me if a higher proportion were from here).

But, I'm with VicBrett. This is really nothing more than a masterful publicity stunt, which has no doubt driven tens of thousands more hits toward their website.

How nice of CNN to be their unpaid marketing team!
