So, I'm using the matching this weekend, for the first time in years, and I have matches who are an average of 40, with the oldest being 53. Seven are more than five years older than me, and three are 49.

Now, I wonder if they have made a selection in their profile to get me (I'm 37), and if so, are they likely to affirmatively-choose a younger dating partner?

If so, why?

Check your matching criteria. Mine got all weirded up too. If you don't want to be matched with women 10+ years older than yourself, change it.

I don't like dating younger men because when you get below 30 (I'm 36) you run into idiots. They still have other things to work on that you already have and maybe want a brood of kids whereas I'm pretty much done.

Some women like younger men for various reasons, but I've learned they just aren't for me.

Now, I have ran across the occasional younger guy who has it together and shows more intelligence and maturity, but those are rare.

I am almost 25 (probably look like I am 19), and I have noticed older women (30 - 40s) are more likely to comment that I am attractive than women aged 19 to 27. I do not know women that age are more likely to give compliments, or if is just like a motherly comment. It is just an interesting anomaly I have noticed.

I think a lot of people have really broad settings, for me I would be willing to date a much older woman 10-15 years if I felt she was a good match for me. Each case is different and even though we might look funny at a 35 year old guy with a 60 year old woman, if they are happy and have a good relationship than good for them.

I have run into the opposite phenomonom: I'm 43 and while on Match was getting many responses from men everywhere from 37 down to 27, despite having my age preference of my age + 7. When I asked one of them they replied they just related better to older women. OoooKay! The 27 yr old I found out quickly just had a bizarre sexual fetish for older women, which I would not fulfill for him. Seriously folks...you meet all kinds out there. (You must be kindof a hottie for the cougars, DLion!)

I found this very pronounced in the work place.

I think it is because a young woman commenting favorably on the appearance of a man at her age would expect to be seen as "making a pass" at him, whereas an older woman knows she is outside the dating possibility, and is therefore free to issue a genuine compliment.

My profile language has always attracted favorable comments from older women (and there may simply be more older women on eHarmony.)

Frankly, some of these women have very desirable qualities, interests, and write a good profile. I can't see their photos as a free matching weekend, so that is an open question.

I have historically looked for partners without regard for commitment, and I am an unusually self-directed person (i.e., social conventions are not decision-points for me.)

Keeping in mind, that I am seeking successful, ambitious, career-and-accomplishment-driven women, no children; fit, healthy, and well-educated.

It's no suprise to get them - especially if one believes eHarmony actually does what it claims.

I'm curious what segment of women are looking younger deliberately, and why.
