But I've been blind sided by "partial eaters". Men who only eat part of their meal. One memorable time ... I asked "is your food OK? Did you enjoy this?" (I was treating). He responded: "Oh yes. I'm done. Mama always said I eat like a bird!"

And you know what? He was, indeed, done.
Except under unusual circumstances, I make a sincere effort to eat everything I order.

I need the foods.

Feed me!

You continue eating. The faster eater waits.

I'm a fast eater.

But let's face it, the longer you live alone, the less likely you are to remember everything about group table manners ... it takes practice.

I can tolerate almost anything except eating with mouth open ... smacking food while eating ... being rude to wait staff. Those are deal breakers.

Well ... don't comment on what Mama says. I'm sure she's a fine lady ... but I don't want to think about her serving you food and patting you on the belly while you are trying to kiss me.

Mind bleach!

You are definitely the type of date (ungracious) that a guy would excuse himself to go to the mens room and just leave you sitting at the table and not return! If he was a gentleman he would also pay the check before leaving or not.

The skipped meds sounds about right. Harvey is obviously seeing things that aren't there in any way, shape or form. There's absolutely nothing in CO's post that could be categorized as being an 'ungracious' date. In fact, checking to make sure her date's food was ok when he pushed aside a half-eaten meal shows concern for his comfort.

And he didn't see what was there. i.e that CO was treating. Yeah, how ungracious of her.

Well, if you two are going to have a contest to determine who eats slowest, I want to have a contest with someone to see who eats fastest

Last fall I was helping my brother with some pre-wedding errands, and one night, we grabbed a quick supper at the food court in a local mall. He told me that we were pressed for time, and asked that I eat fast. So I did. When I was done my meal, I looked up and noticed he was little more than half done (we had ordered essentially the same thing). He said he wished he had a video camera, because no one was going to believe that someone else had eaten faster than he had.

I guess we grew up in the same family; there were 8 of us, all with hearty appetites. The faster you ate, the more food you got

Ha! Peg, my dad grew up with 2 brothers and 2 sisters and he was the baby. He has always eaten fast and says almost the same thing: If you want food, you gotta eat fast!

I've often heard that people who grew up in large families tend to be faster eaters - I think precisely for that reason.

Yep. And then, like nightling said, he joined the Navy right after high school, so it only got worse!
