very different scenarios... But, they do bring up interesting questions regarding motivation, morality, ethics, etc. As long as we do what appears to the outside observer to be the "right" thing (i.e., being nice), does it matter if our motives are largely self-serving? At what point does "just doing business" (e.g., using whatever means to "negotiate" a price) become unethical? How do we measure the morality of our actions? Against what standard?

I also ponder these serious questions, everytime I am at a casino in Las Vegas and the cocktail waitress, dressed in a strapless minidress so short, it barely covers her crotch, and in high heels, comes up to me and tries to get me to buy alcoholic beverages from her .

I used to think it was priceless when the waitress would flirt with my husband in front of me and my kids. I love the one time my older daughter goes do you know how pathetic you are dad. Mom's prettier than the waitress, she is laughing all the way to the bank. This was after he tipped her like 30%. Hard to figure out why I divorced such a winner.

Oh of course he flirted back with comments like if I didn't have the ball and chain and other witty remarks.

If I go alone to a low-end restaurant, I get pretty aggressive treatment by female staff: putting hands on my arm, shoulder, sitting down next to me … never had it happen when I had a companion with me, though.

I'm just lucky I guess. I think the above story happened at Joes Crab Shack. Not sure if that is relevant.
