Thanks for all the advice. What would be the best way to talk to a date before the first date about who is going to pay?
I personally think if the first date is casual (coffee, brunch, etc), I don't expect the woman to pay. There are always nice coffee shops that also serve nice brunch item, etc. $20 ain't gonna break my bank.

I am also fine with first 'real dinner' date being on the guy's responsibility. I went out with somebody before and at the end of the (2nd) date, she thanked me and said "I will pick up the tab next time since you've paid for the first two." I thought it was a nice gesture.

But just like Tbesq said if you offered to pay, offered so genuinely and not as a test. If you genuinely like the guy (and want to continue talk after the lunch/coffee), you can say "Hey...wanna walk a little bit..maybe get ice cream (or some inexpensive food item) later? My turn to treat"

If you feel like you want to contribute...but still let the guy pay, at least just offer to pay the tip. I'm sure you won't lose sleep over $5-8, the guy will still think you're interested in him, and you score points also.

Just my 2 cents (and it's on me too! )

Never ask who is going to pay. If he does hes a keeper. If he *gasp* asks you to or asks you to chip in I would advise never seeing the guy again.

Obviously never see a woman again who wants your money like this, guys.

Women are "supposed" to submit to me and do what I tell them, all the time (or at least in proportion to how much I pay.)

I want to chip in at least $20 of my hard earned money for D_Lion and Nanette to have coffee together and talk things out (it's NOT a date...mind you since it's only coffee ask CP30 if you don't believe it!)

Oh chit..I have always suspected that some men think this way... which is why I always do an 'active' first date which requires no more than a bottle of water and maybe a pretzel from one of those rusty food carts in NYC!..

I am beholding to no man..haha!
