I shave most days, but can be apathetic on weekends, later in week. For most dates I’ll spends a few moments in front of a mirror sprucing up. And if some neat occasion is coming; ie, night at the theatre I might get in a hair trim. But my question is; does saving for a date imply an element of desperation, not wanting to put the woman off. Or is it a courtesy to put on a reasonable presentation?

Depends on the person. If you normally shave daily then yeah, go ahead. If you like the scruffy look then don't. I don't think it has anything to do with desperation. Just a personal preference. I wouldn't show up with a 5 o'clock shadow though.

I do not like facial hair on me so I shave everyday (including weekends) That means that I am going to shave if I have a date. It has nothing to do with desperation. I always try to look as nice as possible anytime I go out, even if it is just to the corner store.

I used to have a goatee (sp) for a long time then it all turned white at the age of 33. I have been clean shaven since and always shave on the weekends to get rid of the white whiskers that are forming.

Does it wreak of desperation if I shave my legs for a date with you? How about putting on deodorant? Will you think less of me if I brush my hair, wear a nice dress and put on a little make up? If I brush my teeth before the date, will that minty fresh smell make me seem desperate for a kiss!?

I usually can understand most of the men on this board at least some of the time, but honestly, I am totally confused by your threads. You are the only person I know who worries more about trying not to impress. Ok. Trying to take your question seriously, I would say that unless you are trying to prevent a good night kiss, that shaving is a good plan. Some women like the unshaven look or feel, but they will likely let you know if you date long enough. But otherwise, play it safe. Women who took the time to look nice for you, may be put off by the idea that you didn't put any effort into your own appearance for the date.

i think it's sweet if a guy wants to look nice for me on a date. it's not desperation, just respect.

If you will only be happy with a woman who prefers scruffy, then do as you will!

Most women will probably wonder why you did that, and some will be majorly put off. It's up to you!

If you would normally shave before going out, then shave before a date. There is nothing wrong with making yourself look the best you can.

That is a positive.

+1

Of course you shave for a date. Why would it be a sign of desperation?

Hygiene is important to many people.
