texting may create a void, however, it also allows you to be more real. ask more difficult questions, and answer more honestly because there is something to hide behind

Texting is so impersonal and cold! At least with a old- fashioned telephone call, you have not only the words, but you can hear the emotions behind them and discern whether the person on the other line is stressed, calm, happy, annoyed, preoccupied, sad, angry, or whatever emotional frame of mind they are in at present.  There is a more satiosfying give and take with out the annoying intervals needed to send a receive messages.  A phone call lets you know that your love interest is taking time to tallk to you. He or she is listening!

I am so glad I'm not the only one that finds texting slightly obnoxious for the getting to know stage. I think its ok for established relationships, friends and family or simple communication. However, I’d stay clear of it for new relationships. On a side note: I have heard from more than a few sources that those who text incessantly are typically looking for one thing. Though I disagree to make this judgment call for all; I have found it to be somewhat true, especially for a lot of the boys in my generation.

Texting leaves so much open to interpretation when you're dating too. Big difference between a call that says, with remorseful tone, "I'm very sorry, I'm going to have to cancel our plans, I'm not feeling well today but I'd like to get together this weekend if you have time"
versus
"Have 2 cancel 2nite not up to it"...

I love texting/emailing/blackberry messenger, etc.

It's a quick way to say hello or get a message to someone. There are times I am in the thick of things and I would not have answered the phone, but I am open to reading and/or responding to a text.

But that's just me...

1) Plenty of people at bars meeting people in person are looking for just one thing.

2) Plenty of people who ask for your number and call you are looking for just one thing.

3) Plenty of emailers are only looking for one thing.

Texting is just another form of communication...
