Actually Saul and I do get together.

In a few months time he's going to get a job offer in London and he comes over here and we have an amazing romance but his contract ends and he goes back to Texas. This is the sad bit.

But wait! I then get a teaching assignment in Dallas. There's a touching reunion in the Aquarium and then we live happily ever after. The hen night with all the girls in Deep Ellum is a particularly funny episode.

Think Rachel and Ross. We're just hoping that knowing the plot won't spoil it all for you.

That's it isn't it Saul? I didn't miss anything important out?

Actually, we both wind up in Mexico.

I crashed your henfest in Deep Ellum (which isn't all that fun anyway), and after what happened, Mexico was the only place they wouldn't look for us.

Ahhhhh...you have a great null hypothesis here. I love how you did that...very creative of you! However, being the optimist that I am, I have another way to see data (mating...dating...relationships, perceptions...etc) from a descriptive researcher's POV:

As a descriptive researcher, I must decide on a population; choose a technique for sampling it; minimize the entrance of bias into the study; develop a valid means of collecting the desired information; and then actually collect, record, organize, and analyze it all. The activities connected with descriptive research are complex, time consuming, and distracting. Therein lies an element of danger. With all of this motion going on, it would not be surprising if the researcher lost sight of the problem and subproblems. But the problem and its subproblems are precisely the reason for all the rest of the activity. All research activity is subordinate to the research problem itself. . Activity for activity’s sake is seductive. Amassing great quantities of data can provide a sense of well-being. Some data folks might lose sight of the ultimate demands the problem itself makes on those data. Presenting the data in displays an summaries-graphs, charts, tables-does nothing more than demonstrate the researcher’s acquisitive skills and consummate ability to present the same data in different settings. Statistics are tools that enable us to find patterns within data. To stop with a mere indication that something accounts for a significant difference between one data set and another is to settle for a ghost, and data is not a systematic quest for ghosts. With that said, one must ultimately develop an intellectual acuity that looks with unprejudiced candor at their procedures and results. One must never stop at running data through a statistical formula and ending up with one or more numerical values. One must also interpret those values and give them meaning. The latter process includes the former, but the two should never be confused.

Just trying to add my own statistical view as a comparison to how I see data and variables quite differently D_Lion!..albeit much more simplistic than you of course...no engineer here, just a lowly researcher trying to keep all of us data people honest!!!!...

(Sorry....feelin' real cheeky today!.....

Ha!...the OP already has him matched quite expertly with Chawks

Besides...though he and I are both Northeasterners, I am way too old for him (cradle-robbin') and most certainly not his type!

....and the way we see data from a glass half-full (me) and glass half-empty (him) stance, we would never get along and I'd be pulling my hair out discussing stats with him all day!

He is a charmer at times though, isn't he?... 'stat talkin'' and doing the two-step out of potentially sticky situations the way he does...lol (no offense to the D!)
