I've been away for a while, so I'd thought I'd make a splashy return. I'm guessing that I going to catch heck for this but...

A few weeks ago I was at a job related get-together. This was sponsored by a company that my employer purchases services from. Since this was in the evening we could bring a "companion." I went dateless because my coworker M was going to bring her sister-in-law S because M thought S and I would hit it off.

After chatting with S for a while she goes off to join M. Co-worker J comes over and shares with me that S has a habit of sleeping with guys on the first date. J worked with S for several years. In the end I told M that I didn't think S was a good match for me because of our differing personalities.

The happy ending to the first date, while appealing, caused me concern. In my younger years I might have gone for it but not now.

Reasons?

1 - STD's (the gift that keeps on giving)
2 - pregnancy (wouldn't mind being a dad, but only in a stable, loving marriage).
3 - who else has she done this with?
4 - who am I being compared to?
5 - what would she be doing when I am not around?
6 - would girls night out be girls/guys night out?
7 - how long before she was bored with me?

Thoughts?

Reasons 1-3 indicate maturity and the beginnings of wisdom.

Reasons 4-7 indicate a bit of a backslide on the conclusion of 1-3. : )

I don't think you gave S a chance at all. You seemed to have immediately dismissed her, based off of office water cooler talk that may or may not be true.

The seven reasons you provided are valid concerns for anybody dating, but if you're going to run this through you head everytime you meet someone for the first time. I feel you're sabotaging your own dating life.

I left out 8 - 12 they were the kinds of things that would get me modded.

How is it that 4 -7 are backsliding, it seemed to me that they supported 1 - 3.

Because J and S worked within 30 feet of each other for several years and would often discuss men.
