A friend of yours has hit a dating dry spell and is feeling frustrated and defeated. What recommendations would you make to help this friend get over his/her slump?

I can totally relate to the dry spell thing as I am absolutely in the worst drought of my life with dating. I can't win for losing - it seems everything I do and every effort I make totally backfires for the worst. It really got me down in the dumps early this year and I was so bitter and depressed.

My best advice to someone who is going through this is to do something that will better themselves and focus on themselves. Actually make that one elusive nagging goal happen - lose that weight, get that college degree, volunteer, etc. Just forget about not being able to get a date and get self absorbed in your goals or that new hobby.

For me, I am focused on losing weight and improving my diet and lifestyle. I am also volunteering and helping teaching grade school kids math and science. I am so busy and self absorbed I dont have time to get depressed. I am very passive with dating and not even actively looking for anyone.

My obesity dragged me down in all partts of my life - so now nutrition and losing weight is my top priority right now.

Just find something to do that you enjoy and get so involved in it you dont have time to get depressed - thats what I am doing. The breaks from dating gives us time to focus on our goals.

Apparently this is because I haven't gotten a few phone numbers, or because guys don't like union Teachers that strike

Seriously... I am always amazed when women say they can't get dates.
There are entire industries devoted to making women get noticed...from cosmetics to hair styling & nails...even sexy clothing (including bras). Men come-out with receding hair, so-so clothes, and covered with body hair. I hope I haven't jinxed myself.

I'd set up a date for them with a single man/woman that I know.

Since I don't do so well for myself I would not feel qualified to play matchmaker. I only share my dating advice and opinions here on the Advice boards. I am presuming that the person with the dating dry spell is not you brneyedangel.

Actually, I didn't write the question about me, it was written more along the lines of a general question because it's a topic that I see coming up on the boards quite often. However, if I told you how long it's been since I've been on a date, you might be surprised, based on your statement.
