If you're dating someone that has a sketchy past is it out of line to ask for an STD test? Check for most STDs and AIDS?

Maybe suggest that you both get tested to get the other one to do it?

Nah...perfectly normal..
.
(disclaimer: I can't be of any help here, as I don't date people with a sketchy past.)

a person's past is no indicator if they might possibly have a STD. it only takes one time.

anyhoo, i think a good idea would be to go get tested yourself, and when the subject of sex comes up just mention that you have your papers. then the person might take it upon themselves to get tested too.

Why would you even consider sleeping with someone who has a "sketchy past?" Maybe some of the great minds that populate these boards can come up with a brilliant answer.

Hmmm... it seems that there have been several threads on this theme lately....

You certainly don't have to have a sketchy past to get an STD...lol. You can get one the first time you have sex with someone. In fact, you are putting yourself at higher risk if this is what you believe.

Or, are you suggesting that you're the one with the "sketchy" past?

not only that, but you can be a virgin and get oral gonorrhea.

several partners, bar hopper, anything that may make you think the other person may have had risky encounters in their past.

for instance, a recently divorced person who got married out of high school and never had another partner would have a less sketchy past

unless the spouse engaged in risky behavior.

I guess in principle it sounds reasonable. The only thing is I've never asked for nor ever been ask for one.
