Understanding humor requires a level of intelligence...and I believe men armed with humor are favored by women.

Indeed they do Dugl, indeed they do. Well some women anyway.

Do men like to date funny women?

I'm not talking about women "with a good sense of humour" (incidentally what does that even mean 'I can recognise when something funny has occured'?! Woo Hoo. Advanced).

I mean women who are fast and witty and funny. My ex was the funniest person I ever met; razor sharp with an enormous range of references. We had literally hundreds of running jokes that waxed and waned and which we bounced off each other. It was a kind of showing off to each other flirting and was positive and bonding. I'm not sure if men generally like this though.

Actually, I'm going to post this as a thread.................

This post contains moderate sarcasm but no irony.

I really don't know exactly what kind of humor I have. I do know that there are only a couple of people on here that actually do "get" me. Most can figure out if I was making funny or being serious even when they don't get it. Then there are a few that just don't "get" me at all.

Where was the sarcasm? The irony? Didn't you see the title of the thread??

(I'm just teasing of course - ironically, I've frequently done what I just accused you of. It's just that I like this thread, and want it to continue - and I did so at your expense. And for that I sincerely apologize. There's nothing more I'd want to do than spend the rest of the week making it up to you somehow. - there that last sentence should cover the sarcasm... so: check.)

I don't know - sometimes it seems funnier to me to be discussing humor than making jokes (although we can also joke about them too). Is this called meta-humor? Or....

Banter involves more than one person ... a volley ... and I love it. It makes my brain warm.

Sarcasm ... well, there is brilliant and low sarcasm ... but always there is that undercurrent of defensiveness in it. I'm not a big fan. I catch myself occasionally ... but it's never a bright and shinning moment.

I like irony and absurdity ... and sometimes, they can be bantered about.

Wow, this is a pretty deep discussion about humor.

I tend to think along the lines of if something I'm about to say will hurt someone's feelings, then it's really not funny, is it. At least it's certainly not worth the laughs I'll get from others at someone else's expense.

To me, that's just called being mean.

As for my sense of humor, I'm goofy, in a dry, witty, ironic kind of way...
