Ever dated someone who thought they could sing, but sadly...all it did was make the dogs howl! Ever dated someone consumed with playing their guitar every chance they had? Brought it with him on dates, get togethers etc..so much so, that you thought it was attached to their hip? At get-togethers, would bring it out and play the same thing over and over and over again! ( the same 4 chords!)
Well I say the torture is enough! I have been dating such a guy on and off for the past several months....but no more! I can't take it! I have tried to tell him as nicely as I can, but to no avail. Friday night was the last straw. He did it again, this time bringing it to a BBQ at some mutual friends. He actually turned off the tunes on the stereo to inflict us with the painful 4 chords over and over and over again!
If you can't sing, save it for the shower, if you can't play a musical instrument properly and entertain people with your musical skills, save that for the shower too! haha! or at the very least, your own private space, alone!
You are not impressing anyone, and can and may result in being unable to find a date or an invite to a party!

Hahahahahahaha ... yep, I do know people who believe they possess a skill when in reality they do not! Why is it almost always something to do with singing and/or playing a musical instrument?!

This also happens with some who always sing in karoke bars. Often its a group of slightly drunk friends who won't give up.

However, not everyone agrees on the degree of the offense, and some will actually encourage. This thread should perhaps focus on how to let a friend know when to knock it off without seriously hurting feelings. Apparently this didn't work for the OP.

Their Mom probably told them they're great and is still encouraging them.

So, what did you do? Did you declare, "It's me or the guitar !" Or after he strung his last note, you said, "That's it. We're through!"

Well I guess for the most part, yes to all of the above!
I did try on several occasions to break it to him gently, but he is a hard headed person, ( a lawyer who thinks he is superior to every human being on this planet..I think!).. Well, he will be strumming his guitar "solo" for a while!........funny thing is, he has called me about 4 times since Friday, and I just can't pick up the phone for fear of what I will tell him!...........as you know.......I can be very direct!

Over the years I have, some were bad, some were good , some did the best they could. If they were bad and we were at a party or BBQ, it didn't take long, especially if they dared to touch the stereo, for the verbal tar and feathers to come out. I actually had a couple quit dating me because my friends didn't appreciate their talent.
My problem is that because my last name is the same as a famous opera singer. It is inevitable that when introduced at a party or business conference, someone will ask me if I can sing or if I'm going to sing for them. The answer to both questions is NO.
Not to mention my last name is pronounced the same but spelled differently than a certain literary character. Which creates another set of dumb questions people ask strangers at parties.
