In the "Ask an Expert" section there is a short blurb about "Pick-up Lines that actually work" and it does, in fact, have a couple good ideas - especially the one about pretending to be acquainted.. But the blurb made me think everyone around here, both male and female, must have some funky pick-up line philosophy and maybe a couple "original" lines they've used with success that would make for fun posts.

Personally, I really enjoy flirting even when (or maybe especially when) it's just for fun - just to brighten my day and someone else's. It's always grand to get a positive response even if that's all there is.

Off the top of my head, here are two that have worked for me.

I see an interesting woman in a store like a hardware or feed store and ask her if I can buy her a drink or, even cheesier, grin at her and say "Hey Mama, what's your sign?" Either of those is so hokey they can't help but laugh and they often come back with something funny in return.

In a club I'll sort of "appear" beside a woman and when she notices me I'll lean slightly toward her and say "Excuse me, I don't know who the lucky guy is you wore that top (or black dress or skirt etc.) for but that boy is headed for Total Meltdown. Then I'll act like I was just passing by, maybe shake my head and do a "thumbs up", and if she responds with conversation I'll stay. It seems to work more times than not.

Ok Ladies and Gents - let's hear some of the clever lines and/or moves Y'All have come up with to capture someone's attention.

This is just way too easy. The hard part is deciding which car to drive. Destination doesn't really seem to matter.

Seneca.. I might have to steal the 2nd one! I'll have to follow this thread.. I must admit my game has fallen off..

Pick up lines remind me of that cheesy 80's movie The Pick Up Artist

1980's pick up line: Did anyone ever tell you that you have the face of a Botticelli and the body of a Degas

2009: Pick up line: did anyone every tell you that you have the face of Megan Fox and the booty of Beyonce

My experience with trying to use "pick up lines" in general has been shown to send a "desperate" or "no self confidence" signal to women in general. Most of the guys I know have had the same response in general.

So why not change the "rules", so to speak, and give the women a reason to try and get your attention??

Problem is that the "qualified" woman has not yet asked!!

Just my personal experience.

Come to think of it... while I've had women smile with a coy look or bat their eyes or make other such flirty moves, I not sure I recall many women actually approachng with a "line". Maybe women just aren't creative (or friendly) enough to think of any "lines"!
Hmmm. Never thought of that before.

Oh well.

Seneca, why I am shocked to hear you say that! Women are very creative sometimes. There have been some good lines and some really not so good. Hey, learning is part of the fun!!!!

OR! Maybe some of the women you tend to find yourself around,
are to shy/scared/nervous or jus have an overwhelming fear of
rejection?

Myself, I dont usually do 'lines' but I find myself jus walkin up an startin an convo with whomever.
An if I decide that I like them, I'll get a number or offer mine.

I have to admit that I've not done that lately, where as I'm thinkin
I might be building somethin with an old high school friend, maybe.
I've not really decided where I want to go with it yet, stay jus friends and not risk it or take it further an risk everything? eh I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Okay, those pick up lines would make me laugh buyt they would also make me very wary and think you are just a little too off the top for me. I prefer a guy who doesn't use pick up lines but just starts an interesting conversation with you and looks like he's interested in who you are and what you have to say. Lots of body language and facial expressions here rather thanpick up lines. Guys with lines just feel desperate to me and a little nuts.

As for pick up lines that I use? None. I just start conversations, especially if we're both waiting in line, like at a grocery store or if we are at a party together, I'll just move into an ongoing conversation and give a few comments myself to start and see what happens.
