"With other male friends slapping on the shoulders and offering encouraging comments about “success with the ladies”, young men who contract diseases such as chlamydia or genital warts can come to view their infection as a badge of honour, rather than a serious health problem."

Chlamydia helps young men feel more 'manly': Swedish study - The Local

There was no mention of how many guys considered STD manly. They were simply this third group in the study, could have been a couple of guys goofing off and not giving genuine answers.

Another quote from the article:

QQQ
The responses gathered by Hammarlund show that a girl fears she will upset a guy if she asks him to use a condom. Meanwhile, the guy doesn’t want to take out a condom first out of fear the action will show that he assumed he would be having sex even before the encounter began.

QQQ

I never got that, either one. It's like being embarrassed to wear underpants.

I found it interesting that the results of the study weren't published. Or at least, I couldn't seem to find them. So we're not able to determine how accurately the comments reflect the study data.

This article is disturbing on several levels, not the least of which is: anyone with chlmydia can also carry HIV.

Adding here that 'barebacking' is a common practise among straight, gay, bi-sexual and transgender men. There are many who take their health seriously- and those who refuse to acknowledge that despite the many therapies now being sold, none cures AIDS, and AIDS remains a dread disease.

I agreed with this remark that was in the "comments"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A breakdown is needed in the subjects of the study.
Are they immigrants? Are they recent immigrants?
Are they the children of immigrants? How many of them come from the Middle-East? How many of them come from Norway, Denmark, Finland?
Are they poor, middle-class, wealthy?
Are they athletes? Are they the children of athletes?
Sweden is awash in immigrants today. She is citing the 1970s as a comparison of her days to now. There were nowhere near as many immigrants in Sweden in the 1970s compared to today, and I doubt that the 70s had anyone who used an SDT as a badge of manhood.
Her methodology is flawed.
Yes. Researchers create data to fit their view when they don't present the data for interpretation. Often their views are flawed.
