I recently saw the movie "Burn After Reading" in which one character goes to see a comedy with two different dates she met through an on-line dating service. She finds the humor funny and her first date (a real dud) doesn't, while the second laughs at all the things she does (yes, he's a player, but they have great chemistry together).

This made me remember a friend in college who used a movie he really connected with ("Singles") as a test for three different women whom he took on dates within a span of a couple weeks. The movie was his test: if they didn't get it, they didn't get him.

Do you have a movie that is your test? Is there something about the particular kind of humor in a movie or something gripping about a story that says so much about you that you can use it as a measure of compatibility?

As a side note, one of the dates (more of an acquaintance than a friend of mine) later complained to me about how he took her to see this stupid movie ... and I couldn't tell her that she wasn't getting a second date!

Me first! I recently saw the movie Bruno, which has it's own brand of humor that will not be universally well received. I thought it was hilarious and so did my date--we laughed at all the same jokes, so I'm thinking he's a keeper.

I suppose there may be a small bit of validity in this idea. However, I think it would be more important that she laugh at my jokes

I am not really a movie guy. I have only seen a few movies in my life and would not have any that I would think to use to test a date with.

(I may be Gr8 but I am not very exciting )

I would not do this.

In fact, I would doubt the suitability of a person who would apply such a superficial test as a determination of compatibility.

Very good point! We do laugh at each others jokes too.

LOL! I don't see it is as a workable test of a person's compatibility overall like my friend did. I was surprised when he told me he was doing it. I have read different posts since I joined eHA of people who have different tests (like if she offers to pay for the date)!

That said, I think it is possible to see if someone has a compatible sense of humor with a single date seeing a film--although a night of stand-up comedy could also accomplish the same thing.
