Actually, i can't really take credit for this post. I just got off the phone with a friend of mine who went out on a "first dinner date" with this guy last night. She had me in stitches laughing, she said she was so hungry, but would not eat everything on her plate, both appetizer and main course, as she did not want her date to think she "ate like a horse!" When it came for time for dessert, she passed, even though her favorite was on the menu! I told her she was nuts! ...just wondering how many of us do this? On a side bar, she went home and ordered a Pizza, she was so hungry!

I've heard of this type of behavior. What do women figure, that it makes them seem 'feminine' or maybe that their eating behavior is related to their weight?

Personally, I would feel bad if I was her date and found out she went without eating because she didn't want me to form a bad opinion of her eating habits.

I went on only one date where she didn't really eat, she ordered a salad and picked at it the entire night.

I've heard of people not eating as much due to nerves on a first date, but those people are very few and far between. This is really ridiculous. Is she always going to be a closet eater with her dates? If you can't be yourself on a date, then why bother going out with anyone?

I rarely eat everything that is served in a restaurant, not because I want to feel ladylike, but because the portion sizes are usually very large and just too much food for me.

Have you ever stopped to look at a plate of spaghetti? If you think about it, there are usually 2-3 servings on the plate.

I look at it when it’s empty, because I can’t believe it is gone already!

There have been times where I was unable to finish my meal. It has usually occurred because we ordered and then waited 90 minutes to be served our meal, so of course I filled up on drinks!

I find it really weird that your friend went out with this new man and deliberately did not eat even though she was hungry. It strikes me as a lack of rational thinking on her part. Has she had a previous partner take cheap shots at her re her appetite?

I'm with D too ... when I have been unable to finish my meal, I have always apologised and at least met him halfway re the meal cost.
