Hi Everyone,

I have a question to ask and I'm not sure that it's even on the correct board. I have been out several times with a new gentleman and I need some answers!

I have noticed that he wears his nails (all of them...and not just the pinky) very long and shaped. By long I mean, 1/4 to 1/2 inch in length. I have never seen long nails on any of my past boyfriends and this grooming oddity is slightly...no extremely turning me off. When I ask my manicurist how she files and buffs her male clients, she answered "straight across, and short or with very little length."

I know, I should ask and I will tonight, but I thought I would ask the group....what the heck is this????

BTW, he is 64, very well groomed and clothed, athletic....smart and very much the gentleman...I just don't understand. Can you guys shed some light?

CEU

He does it because he wants to. That's his taste.

It's the same reason why you prefer certain foods over others, and have a favorite color. We like what we like, sometimes there is no other explanation. (At least, not an obvious or significant one.)

Or, it could be because he's a vampire who has filed down his fangs so he can blend in with humans, and he uses his fingernails to puncture throats instead...

There is a possibility that he plays guitar (finger picking style.) My ex used to have these special finger-picking picks that he would put on each of his fingers to play that style of guitar so if you could grow them yourself I suppose that would be a reason. Is he from a different culture than you? There are Rasta men around here that I know who also have long nails and they like them because they work with their hands a lot... so they are sort of like tools I guess. I would not like a man with nails like that because I don't think the nails can stay too clean. I even wear mine short, clean, with just clear polish.

Classical guitar players often have long finger nails on their picking/strumming hand. Not sure if they would have long nails on both.

Sorry Everyone,

He is not a guitar player and is not from another culture!! Red blooded American Male!

This goes back to the fact that women look at men's hygiene and grooming habits...we do, guys! His nails are very long and no, not perfectly clean either. This doesn't make sense because everything else about his grooming is top notch. Any other suggestions...in any case, the question will present itself tonight. I'll post the answer tomorrow.

Perhaps he is just too lazy to trim his nails, perhaps he likes them that way. It really doesn't matter why though, he seems to like it and if you have a problem with it than you can tell him or not attempt to have a relationship with him. Personally I don't like my nails long (and I don't want to hurt a woman I am with either).

Classical guitar players only need the thumb nail on the right hand, if right handed, or left if left handed......not all of them! ... and a pick does just as well!
Maybe by him a nail clipper?? Sounds a little odd to me! In other words really creepy!!

Maybe his side job demands he wear a skimpy outfit and dance on a pole for tips?
