I currently live at home to help take care of my mom as she is ill. Should this affect me to find a true girlfriend? As I see it if she likes me for me she would appreciate I am taking care of family and showing I am a caring person. Or am I totally wrong on this idea?

Many women will react exactly like that.

There will be some, of course, who won't want to date a man who is still at home, but I expect that many of the young women in your age group are in similar circumstances for any number of reasons (i.e., living with parents).

I would just make clear what the reasons are that you are at home. This isn't something that you need to state in your profile, rather something that you can get into as you start getting to know your matches.

That being said, you will still want to show that you are also an independent adult who can take care of himself.

You must have your own private space and show that this situation will not last forever... Many women will not want to volunteer for a long term deal that includes taking care of your elderly.

Can you find an apartment nearby? That is your best bet...

Good advice.

I DIDN'T have a problem with men who lived with their parents.... Until my ex came along He is perfectly content to live with mommy & daddy for the rest of his life.
Now my criteria for a dateable man is either parents who are deceased or live at least 200 miles away.
Just my POV, of course, I think there are plenty of women out there without those issues. Just make sure that you are ready to devote yourself to your girlfriend before you get serious.

It shouldn't matter to a reasonable person...IF your situation is temporary, you have your own space, time, and resources. But at the same time, I wouldn't use this part of your life to demonstrate you're a caring person. To some, it'll demonstrate you're caring, to others, they'll interpret it as you're dependent. Plus, most women need to have an emotional (not physical) attraction to you in order to date you. The fact that you're a caring person (while great) isn't something they consider on an emotional level when they talk of "chemistry". Taking care of your mother makes you a great and caring guy...sure. But most women go out with and stay with guys they're attracted to-caring or not.

It's fine....if it's true. I've found people use this as an excuse, when in reality the relationship is mutually benefical. Sure, maybe mom needed a little help...but mom's really helping him too.

I'd be interested in finding out what is really going on for myself...
