Actually, if i want to be sentimental on a date, Johnny Reid has some good songs. He also has some songs that are great for partying to. I love dancing so anything that gets me up on the floor on a date (hopefully with someone who likes to dance, otherwise I'm on my own).
What's your favorite song of his?

The Cranberries, Dreams, because it makes me feel like i'm the star of a John Hughes movie.

This from a bloke who always wanted to be John Bender but was really Duckie Dale.

For breakup music i go with Duffy, and for the day when it stops hurting Corrine Bailey Rae, Put your records on.

I had a HUGE crush on John Bender when that movie came out!

For breakups, I would definitely go with Seether.

It varries, and the song usually has some in the lyrics that reminds me of her or something we did. The last date I was on that I thought went well I came away w/ You & Me by DMB.

Now when it comes crashing down shortly afterwards I usually end up going w/ Bob Dylan's Positively 4th Street. I absolutely love these lyrics:

Yeah I wish that for just one time you could stand inside my shoes.
Then you'd know what a drag it is to see you.

hmmmm....how about Louie Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World." Date or no date (latter most recently ), I catch myself humming this one quite often.

I see trees of green........ red roses too
I see em bloom..... for me and for you
And I think to myself.... what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue..... clouds of white
Bright blessed days....dark sacred nights
And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world.

The colors of a rainbow.....so pretty ..in the sky
Are also on the faces.....of people ..going by
I see friends shaking hands.....sayin.. how do you do
Theyre really sayin......i love you.

I hear babies cry...... I watch them grow
Theyll learn much more.....than Ill never know
And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world

(instrumental break)

The colors of a rainbow.....so pretty ..in the sky
Are there on the faces.....of people ..going by
I see friends shaking hands.....sayin.. how do you do
Theyre really sayin...*spoken*(I ....love....you).

I hear babies cry...... I watch them grow
*spoken*(you know their gonna learn
A whole lot more than Ill never know)
And I think to myself .....what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself .......what a wonderful world.

this one, sung by Peggy Lee:

Grab your coat and get your hat
Leave your worries on the doorstep
Life can be so sweet
On the sunny side of the street

Cant you hear the pitter-pat
And that happy tune is your step
Life can be complete
On the sunny side of the street

I used to walk in the shade with my blues on parade
But Im not afraid...this rovers crossed over

If I never had a cent
Id be rich as rockefeller
Gold dust at my feet
On the sunny side of the street

(instrumental break)

I used to walk in the shade with them blues on parade
Now Im not afraid... this rover has crossed over

Now if I never made one cent
I ll still be rich as rockefeller
There will be goldust at my feet
On the sunny
On the sunny, sunny side of the street

Interesting that I hardly notice much music when i'm in a great happy mood, and I usually pay much more attention to the lyrics and tunes of music when i'm in a more somber mood I'm always searching for some resonance from music that i listen to.

When there is another person in the car, I focus far more on our conversation than back ground music. Usually when i'm in solitude I notice what's in the song that's playing. At different times, i pick up different lyrics and sync myself with different tunes, it is very difficult to pick one or two favorite.

I love latin music, salsa or bachata for example, in any kind of mood when you listen it makes you wanting to move and dance!
