If a man asks me if he can change the oil in my car, mow my lawn, or change a flat tire - that's a favor.

Raging sense of entitlement? If I demand $900 for the pleasure of you changing the oil in my car, mowing my lawn, or changing my flat tire - or just for the privilege of basking in my company for a short while - that's entitlement.

And BJ's are not favors...

Have I said that before?

I must have old FCisms lodged in my brain.
Not sure if it was you, but I've heard it around here at least 100 times before...

I'm however sure that sleep deprivation can cause audio and visual hallucinations, so I'm off to dream with the fairies to re-affirm my sense of entitlement to them!

Dang it moderated again!

And a B J is not a favor - it is a mutually beneficial system of barter.

I like the way you think. Sex should always be mutually beneficial, not one person doing the other a favor and expecting material compensation for it. It may suck to hear it, but the latter is nothing more than prostitution.

You don't really have to say much of anything beyond "No worries" it'll probably just make the pair of you uncomfortable.
I do know people who demand to know the reason, but they're nuts because they seem to think that browbeating someone who has already turned them down is going to change minds.

I just don't understand why all your dates have to happen on Friday at 6:00 at [name of the restaurant]...
Happy hour?

You might suggest lunch at a nice place. For a afternoon. Or coffee at starbucks. Breaks the ice, sounds like you do not know her, and she you. Maybe she had a bad experience.
Just thinking of how I would say yes.
If she stil says no, do not bother something else is going on, maybe she is already dating someone.
good luck.

The only thing I'd add is what someone else has touched on already..
Try to be a little more creative.
Instead of just saying: "going on a date", tell them what your idea is going to be.. "would you like out to dinner at..."go for a drink Friday after work at.."
And hey, it's never easy getting rejected, but add some humor to it.
What's to lose??

Humor is the great equalizer. I truly believe that.
I swear you can tell more about what kind of person someone is, by what their sense of humor is....than just about anyting else.
Even the way they laugh...will tell you a lot.
True, there are a few "sourpusses" out there, but almost everyone likes to laugh.

To use your example:
"Would you like to go out for a date?"
"No"
"Don't beat around the bush...I can take it.."
"I'm not really interested.."
What are you really trying to say? C'mon..don't sugarcoat it!.."

Believe it or not, I've done this before and it worked.
if I'm persistent, I can usually get them to crack a smile...
It's all in the delivery.
Then, I know we're off to a good start.

Get them to laugh...it works.
