In rural South I was surprised how pervasive the short hair/beauty salon mafia had infiltrated the mindset. I listened to the women I worked with make disparaging comments about women with long hair ("she is trying to deny her age, etc").
Note to self: I am no longer in the rural south. maybe things are different here.

shrug. my hair is really curly. No matter how well cut, etc: I have proven to myself over and over that I will not take the time to curl, blowdry or whatever and it always looks like Shirley Temple if short.
It will only grow a little past my shoulders, which is long enough to put in a pony tail, get out of my way and be on with the day.
After the bubble bath :let hair down,, brush it out, and one who appreciates it might find it swinging in his face...

but I digress...

Boundaries-you need to set boundaries. If someone touches your hair without asking, verbally tell them they don't have a right to do that.
And if they don't listen - get rid of them immediately! And if they still won't listen - make them an offer they can't refuse!

It REALLY depends on the style, color, and whether they suit the individual woman. The idea that grey hair should be short is, in my opinion, outdated. If a woman's hair is a clean white, or an even silver-grey, it can look stunning worn long, but I have to say there are no hard and fast rules. When I was a teenager, I only liked long, straight hair, but I now find that I even find some women attractive who have REALLY short hair, not even touching the ears. It REALLY depends on the woman's face, body, style of dress, personality, and everything else that defines who a person is. The only thing I can honestly call a turnoff is hair that has been bleached blond until the hair looks tattered no matter what the woman does.

This is what I posted about earlier on the thread. That there are women who, as they get older, just figure they're supposed to 'look their age' and not really try to look sexy etc. so they just cut their hair short.

How can the debate of long hair vs short hair can go on for 9 pages already? Why is this so importnat in the big Dating scheme of things?

Can somebody pleeease enlighten me here?

Depends on the person. When I cut my hair I lost 10 years or more off of my face. I had no idea how old having long hair made me look. For weeks I couldn't go anywhere without everyone exclaiming how great it looked - almost to the point where it was embarrassing. My husband had always told me that he liked my long hair but when he saw it cut short even he realized that he liked it better. I had to carry a fly swatter around for weeks to keep his hands off of it.

On the practical side, as a nurse there are times when it is simply impossible to reach up and brush loose strands out of my face. A shorter hair cut eliminated those "Ewwwww" moments. Longer hair is also a pain in the neck when I am working out and taking showers 2-3 times a day.

Before cutting my hair the first time I went to a wig shop and tried on a bunch of short wigs to see what they looked like.

That's a wonderful idea about trying on different length wigs in order to see what it looks like. Though I'd have to wash my hair several times afterwards because who knows who has been wearing those wigs also (yech!) but it is worth the tradeoff.

Icecream - you had asked about my ukulele a few days ago and one of the things that you have to give up is your long nails. In order to strum properly, you need short fingernails I like to sport long fingernails with cherry red polish... ooo... bright and shiny colors... pretty!
