After my divorce (I was 40 then) I grew my hair out. I did notice that guys I dated always made nice comments about it.

It just got to be so much trouble and I usually just stuck it in a pony tail or a bun. I got it cut recently to just below my shoulders. Much easier to style. I have no clue if men like it better.

I haven't asked any ;-)

I think the majority of men will say they like long hair...and I think that is true in their eyes...I just don't think they pick up on the nuances of hair...they just know what they like when they see it.

Hair is important. It can make or break your look. And this is coming from someone who is completely hopeless with styling hair.

I suggest you may want to think of a change just to see if something is more flattering for you.

I had really long hair and cut it. I gradually went shorter and shorter and I was surprised by the appreciation for the look by the more "devout long-haired on women dudes".

I have grown it out more and have a bunch of layers. I recently feel like I have some control over the round brush technique so I am having some fun with it and a little more confidence to play around with it.

But I guess the point of this rambling message is...hair can be a great asset. Use it to your best advantage!!! Whatever that is.

But you may not know the best look until you try some out.

I agree with Lizzie Pooh, hair can make or break your appearance. I think that applies equally to men and women.

Looking back on the women I've dated, it's been about 50/50 long hair to short hair. I think you just need to go with a style that best compliments your look.

I am unusual in that I usually find short hair to be sexy.

On the other hand, I am communicating with a match that has pics both with short hair & long hair... the short being current. She looked decidedly better with LONG hair. She could look good with short hair... just not this particular cut. Still cute though in spite of the bad do.

I think most men I know say they prefer longer hair. Of course, I think a lot depends on your personal style and look. Personally, I've had my hair various lengths from short (almost a pixie cut) to past my shoulders. Everyone I have ever known thinks my hair looks better short. I doubt I will ever have it long again!

OP, you know if you are considering a shorter cut but are a little afraid to take the plunge, there are websites where you can 'try out' a new style. You just upload a picture and you can try different styles and even colors on your face. There's usually a fee, but it might be worth it if you're nervous about a change.

To the Op, if you do decide to cut your very long hair, please consider a donation to an organization like Locks of Love. They fashion hairpieces for cancer patients.

It's been my finding that most men hate a woman to wear her hair in a bun. Think of "Whistler's Mother."

Short or long........whatever looks best on you is what is best, I think.

Thanks for posting that. My mom is currently undergoing cancer chemo treatment (a few weeks) herself and the loss of hair issue is on her mind. She has had long hair since she was a child and has no idea what she even look like with short hair much less no hair. I'm all for those hair donations for cancer patients.

I was just curious. I am in my 40's and have kept my hair long, but it is always neat and healthy and not full of split ends, etc. I've been told that I should cut my hair and style it more for a woman in my age bracket and am curious about what men think about this. I usually keep it in a clip or up in a bun because it attracts too much attention and strangers come up to me and like to pet my hair like I am a dog or something. I am not kidding. Some people really need to learn to respect others personal boundaries. It is about two feet long so I'm not talking about below one's shoulders long but really long.

Whadda tink?
I have two suggestions or things to think about.

1) If you are seriously considering cutting it or changing it in anyway find a good stylist that is good at envisioning what looks good on people. That doesn't mean expensive either. My hairdresser is on the low to mid-side of prices but she is excellent at knowing what will look good on people from a cut or color stand-point. Ask for a name when you see someone with a really flattering cut.

2) Men usually say they are attracted to women with long hair but they are also attracted to women that have confidence in their looks and hair plays a part in that (example - the difference in a good vs. bad hair day LOL) So take into consideration some of what others think but also consider what makes you feel attractive too!

I prefer long hair on myself....especially after taking the plunge a few times and last time getting that rather unfortunate do that bfc mentioned...not fun....and took too long to grow out!

But 2 feet is REALLY LONG and can look a little hippieish and outdated (sorry, just saying it CAN!!)

I wouldn't go short. But I'd consider lopping off a good 6-10 inches and getting some nice long layers.

It's not dramatic, its still long, its updated and if you dont like it, you grow it back.

you are lucky to have hair that is still thick enough to look good at 2 feet long! I'd understand keeping if I were you too! I definitley would keep it middle back......no shorter if I were you. Just add some style.

Personally, I always end up with my hair in a bun, or up in some other way every day too. But I like to have it on the weekends when I have more time to blow it out or style it.

I do think it makes most of us look younger if you have appropriate color and style.
