If you're about to spend a few hours in the car with the person you've just started dating, you may be in for a surprise when he or she turns on the tunes. He likes Punk, you like Country. What to do? Check out these music middle grounds.

What a fun article. I'm a musician so this is interesting to me. I tend to like most kinds of music except heavy metal. I do have discriminating taste but try not to impose my music onto others. However it would be challenging for me to go on a road trip with someone and all they listen to is Heavy Metal, or the top 20 billboard hits. It's interesting to see what someone's musical taste is, that can reveal a lot about that person.

Music is a HUGE issue with me. Although my taste is quite diverse, I do tend to listen to more rock (hard to soft) than probably any other genre. 60's til now. There's so much awesome music out there today! If a guy is into something I'm not, turn me onto it! I could talk about music, listen to it, play it, you name it, for hours. As long as he has an opinion and is willing to be open to accepting my genre as much as I'm gonna accept his, we'll get along great. I've discovered new music alot that way. But, if he's only into his genre and doesn't venture out of it very often if at all, forget it. Like I said, there is SO much awesome, awesome music out there. If you're musically trained at all, the trained ear can pick out the influences and inspiration in just about anything. For instance, the new Alicia Keyes....she opens with this gorgeous classical piano (which she plays and writes herself from what I understand) and it turns into this luscious R&B, full of depth and emotion. Then there's somebody like Linkin Park that can grab my heart and rock out the most morose melody alive. Or some old school like Queen that captured every retrospect out there. I LOVE MUSIC!!! So if he expects silence in the car, uh uh...ain't gonna happen. My kids have to tell ME..."turn down your stereo!!!"

Another mixture of Metal and Classical is a band called Apocaliptica which plays Metallica songs all with Chellos. Very nice

I've been on a few road trips with gals. No radio. We each take along some favorite CDs. We take turns listening to them. No fights so far...but never, never, never will I listen to middle of the road music.

A corrected post.

You could also take your song collection and pick 15-20 songs together and burn them to a CD. That way you both can be happy with what you will be listening to.

Assuming the journey will be more than an hour, I alternate cds with my traveling companion. (Assuming that we each bring our own.)

Wow, I love this fusion of classical and heavy metal. I'm getting evil thoughts of during the wedding reception when we are all eating the meal of tossing a few of these into the regular line up of classical music, and seeing if I'm the only one that sings along, or seeing if any of the younger guests react.
