I've gotten to the age (31) where most of my friends are married and have small children so they don't go out anymore. Slowly it's gotten to the point where weekend nights are spent at home or at friends houses but little contact with single women.

I've realized that rather then twiddling my thumbs waiting for an amazing single woman to knock on my door I've got to get out more.

What do women think of guys who are out and about solo? Do you find it sketchy? Any pointers? What puts you at ease?

I've always been independent and comfortable in my own company, so I've never felt odd taking myself to dinner or taking in a movie by myself. I don't really have that many friends that I socialize with because they lead their own lives.

Having said that, I woudn't find it odd for a man to be out solo. If we should happen to strike up a conversation, the things that would figure in my evaluation of secure guy comfortable in his own company vs weirdo would be what else he has going in his life if the conversation ever got that far. So a guy out alone is not an automatic red flag.

^^ Agreed. I guy out on his own is not a turn off. However, a guy crowded by "all of his boys" is a turn-off (these crowds suffer from group-think).

Do your thing jec!

Agreed again! All the ladies in pink agree.

Don't ever approach a woman in a pack. And don't let her see you leave the pack to make the approach. She knows you're just going to be checking back with them later.

You might want to start frequenting book stores and coffee shops. I hear there are women there.

At my age (41), I am much less wary of a man who is out solo than I am of a man who is out with his friends. There are pluses and minuses to either one, but I feel less like an instant conquest when I'm not being rated by the wingmen.

Be yourself. Don't worry what others think about you.

A guy that doesn't need a "wingman" looks more mature and secure in himself. MUCH more attractive. Sometimes, when guys leave a pack to approach women, it almost looks like they're doing it on a dare, and sometimes you know they are.

The bookstore and coffee shop idea is good. I've been single for about 3 years, and I do a lot of things alone. Going places alone may feel weird at first, like everyone is staring at you, but it's really a good thing. Go for it. Even if you don't meet someone, at least you're not sitting at home making a permanent dent in the couch.
