I was on a nice second date the other night and I left to go to the rest room and when I returned, I came up from behind him and saw that he was texting or emailing another woman on his blackberry. When I startled him, he quickly closed it up and got up and ran to the bathroom. Is this totally classless? Would you see this person again or even trust him? He has never told me that he was seeing anyone else. Thoughts?

I think it is rude to text on a date (unless it was kid related or possibly work related). However, I think lots of people text whenever. Also, I would not really expect someone to be exclusive on a second date. If this was the only issue I would not hold this against him. Does he pay attention to you on the date? Is he considerate of others?

I hardly ever text, let alone when I'm on a date with another babe.

Unless it is his child then he should be giving you all his attention.

I have a lot of problems with the scenario that you describe.
1. To pull out his cell phone while on a date unless it is small child related is just not proper. It does not matter that you had gone to the restroom.
2. That he feels the need to be constantly connected to everyone in his life goes against me.
3. To be communicating with another match while on a date is just low class.

However, to the other part of your OP. Until you have both decided to be exclusive then you should assume that he is dating others and you should be doing the same. But you should focus on the date you are on and not be arranging a date with someone else during that date.

I would say his actions are a clear indication that he has little respect for you and I would just dump him.

Thanks for your replies. I know it was not business or child related, in fact I knew the girl's name that he was texting. It was another lady he had gone on some previous dates with. We have not agreed to date exclusively yet, but that is what I was wondering about....why did he have to whip out his blackberry while I was in the restroom to send her a quick email. Should I have called him on it right there or should I ask him about it next time we talk? But I would NEVER do that to someone else, you are supposed to be there with that particular date you are on and give them your full attention. He could have waited until he got in the car or home to do that. So most people think I should dump him and move on or question him about it?

He has a lot of class.

Unfortunately, it is all LOW.

Throw him under the bus.

Not only is that just plain rude, but it is very disrespectful also.

Looks like he is keeping his options open and you are not the number one priority in his life (not even for a hour or 2 you were on the date). What a complete jerk!

Run and run fast -- he's not worth your time.

As my grandmother always said, "Never make someone a priority when they only make you an option."

If I was in your situation, I would have ended the date right then and there and walked out.

This guy definitely was rude, crude and sociably unredeeming. Blackberries need to be left at home when going out. Cellphones need to be turned to vibrate at the very least when going on dates. No one should use the cellphone during a date unless it is your children calling you.
