So, I recently joined match with a free trial thinking that I would give the whole online dating thing a try...I attended college in another state and didnt really know anyone back at home, so I just decided to give it a try. I ended up getting matched with this guy, and we talked over email for about two weeks, and he initiated that since we lived so close together that we should meet up. I ended up meeting up with him last Monday at a local restaurant, and I think things went really well...we ended up staying until the restaurant was closing, talking about school, our family background, vacations we had went on previously, etc. He then walked me to my car and gave me a hug and said that he had my number and would get in contact with me, that he was going on vacation with his family to California for a week starting on July 5th.
The next morning, I woke up to an email saying that he had a really great time and that he enjoyed himself, and that if I was interested, we could get together after he got back from California. I responded saying that I had a great time as well and that I would love to get together when he came back, and that my free subscription was ending soon but that he could call or text me anytime. The night after I received the email, he texted me to give me his number and to say that he would get in contact with me when he came back from California to set something up and hoping that I had a great day.
Since then, I have had no communication what so ever from him...no texts, no emails nothing. My friends all think that he is going to call when he gets back, that he seemed interested by the way he emailed me early the next morning to express his feelings towards the meeting and stayed until closing to talk. I guess Im just freaking because Ive gotten nothing....is this normal and should I wait it out before moving on, or should he have communicated before now if he was interested?

Id say just be patient, just make sure not to smoother him :P. Give him until 2 days after he gets his back before you write him off. But by the sounds of it he is into you and might even have something stupid like forgot his cell phone charger.

I agree to wait. He said he’s interested, and that he’ll be away for a defined time.

This says it all. He says he'll get in contact with you after California. Stop freaking out. Wait a few days after the 12th for him to get in contact with you.

Again, you don't need to freak out.

I agree with the other posts. He did show interest. He told you he would be gone for a week.

Go have a pedicure this week and see a movie. Relax.

He'll either contact you when he gets back or he won't. If he doesn't, not the end of the world but does sting a little. (I'm bettin' he calls you within 48 hours of returning.)

Yup. Relax. Trust me, I know from experience that it doesn't bode well when they call every day, 4 or 5 times a day. Sounds like this guy has a life, and that's a good thing.

If he doesn't call within a couple of days of his return, then fine, you can write him off. Until then, I'd cut him some slack and assume he's doing exactly what he said he would do.

He gave you a specific reason why he would be unavailable and told you when he'd be back ... that's a good sign. And if he was truly interested in poofing, I think he would have skipped giving you his number.

So relax and don't stress - there's plenty of time for that down the line

Deep breathe, ok?? I know, it can be nerve-racking but from what you wrote it does sound like he is interested in you.

If he doesn't call after a week from being back, than it is time to panic. lol!!

Isn't dating fun???

Since he has told you that he is on vacation with his family and how long he will be gone I would say just be patient until he has returned. If he has not called within a couple of days of his return you could call or text him to see how his trip was, just to let him know that you are interested.
