Condemned to be so (that is, to be free), and with the responsibility for ones own actions that is yoked to it as surely as the two sides of a coin. But that opens another rather large can of worms... Best to leave it alone. Shh. I can hear the scavengers circling even as we speak... *grin*

Ha! As soon as I saw that I know there would be something in it to post about.

I think part of what got missed in that article (and often, in this debate), is that something can be true – or, shall we say, a scientific theory supported by evidence – and yet of little practical significance. Small differences in observed behavioral differences between men and women are significant if applied to describe a large group, but will not be useful in predicting the outcome of any specific paring of a man and a woman.

Another concern, is that people not geared toward scientific inquiry and intellectual thought, tend to attempt to refute scientific data with personal anecdote, folk wisdom, peer-group values, and emotionally-vivid recollection and tales. This is a rather serious problem; I’d call it more dangerous than an overstatement of the significance of EP.
Surprisingly enough, I couldn't agree more.

How, then, to explain the significant increase in Ladies’ liking of Frog legs recently?
Maybe because those frog legs are becoming a little bit more tender in the cooking process?

Likewise, though, the lack of understanding of religion can be seen as equally problematic to many of us, but that statement is often not allowed to even be seen as credible by today's standards (as it would be considered a bit "folsky" or folklore to challenge science with any spiritual argument).

But to many people spiritual belief, or that component in their decision making it is completley real.

In my opinion there is a lot of compatibility between religion and science and in my belief they will become even more compatible. Of course, that is based on my beliefs, and to many that makes me sound like a crazy person. It is based on my lifetime of gathering knowledge of both though, not just a gut feeling.

But there are many, many religious scientists, and many highly educated people that are church leaders.

What I find missing from so many of these discussions is the spiritual element....but so often its not "Credible" enough or "provable" enough to exist.

But to many of us it is so obviously missing, and to many of us, a great motivator.

I don't reject evolution or evoutionary pyschology...its just my belief it has a long way to go.

And I am educated, just like a lot of Christians, Catholics, Muslims, Hindu's, etc...

And its very interesting me to ask the questions and follow the developments. With a skeptical eye on all of it.

My complaint is that SOME scientists, treat evolution as a religion itself....yet every year there is something that changes, something new....I think its best to keep an open mind and remember that the body of knowledge can be just as questionable as religion. Yet many people feel they have to choose one or the other and fight it til the death. Both should be questioned and remain open to skepticism, and further studied!
You know, I tried to resist this thread, because it has a lot to do with my profession and I prefer to have fun around here, for the most part

But I'm drawn to it, mostly because I think we really are combining all our knowledge here and entering the age of enlightenment, which is what I personally like about this place.

And I love the post, cp30! One of my personal favorites. And I'm not religious at all (I do respect the people who are though), so it must have something to do with that male brain again!

So, what is so good about stats? People think stats are objective but they aren't. Well, OK - stats themselves are objective - not so much the statisticians.
You make me laugh people! And I love you all for it because I really need that laughter now!

But please stop being so predictable, ALL of you!
