I understand it's used, to hold hair, but...wait a minute!!

The woman I am dating exclusively (from Paid EH btw) uses it to "hold" her hair, after it's "done" and it looks great, but feels untouchable and icky, I'd prefer natural, shiny hair, that's been combed out, but thisss...

I think she must use an entire aerosol can of the stuff before every date; and that's if she goes easy on the stuff.

Touching it gently is like putting your hand into a honey covered bird's nest, it's icky and creeps me out. Maybe I am being told here to look and not touch.

She is older (51) and very inexperienced at dating, and likes to"primp" and I don't wish to hurt her feelings about what she does.

How much hairspray do you use? Is there some point of diminishing returns?

I don't use any...but then again, I horrified a hair dresser this week when I told her I walk out the door with wet hair because I can't be bothered to blow dry let alone slather in "product". It's California...evaporation is easy, right?

I am not sure how you could possibly broach the subject without upsetting her.

It's nearly impossible to get caught in the rain in So Cal. It's been months since it rained when I had to go outside.

He might have to take her through a car wash and accidentally open a window....oops! Poor Mercedes Benz interior!

It's not something I use all the time ...mostly on special occasions if I've curled my hair or are trying to "hold" a style.

But this can be somewhat of a generational thing .. my mom always curls and sprays her hair. It may also depend on her hairstyle - some looks require more "upkeep" than others. And consider that she's probably doing some of that primping for your benefit.

When she's going out of the house, you're probably not going to convince her to skip it - as it's probably required to keep her hairstyle looking the way she wants it to. But if you're just hanging around the house or watching a movie, you might be able to gently comment that "you love to run your fingers through her hair" or that you "love the way it feels" sometime when she doesn't have it sprayed. Or, say you love how she looks when she primps, but enjoy it just as much when she puts no effort into it...

Only a tiny wee bit as I have very short hair, cut so it has a bit of a wild look (bed hair).

I'm with Mel, I always leave the haircut lady with wet hair - it dries well enough on its own. I don't own a blow dryer, either. Then again, I have long hair and it does what it wants -- I am lucky it usually looks nice.

But Six, you know what to do. If you're intimate enough to have sex then you're intimate enough to have the hair spray conversation. Something like: sexmuffin? I would really love to touch your hair but I don't know how to deal with the hair spray. Would you rather I didn't touch it? or maybe one night you could get all freaky for me and not wear the hairspray so I could run my fingers through it?

You know this... maybe leave out the word freaky (I wouldn't) but you know this. Not rocket science, but if it was, I daresay you could handle that too.

I think you might buy a blow dryer if you move to Michigan one day. Going out with a wet head is an entirely different matter when there is a danger of icicles forming on your head.

Good point about the hair spray LiT...6dle899 has never seemed to be shy about expressing himself here, so he can handle "the talk".

There are all kinds of "products" that one might use on one's hair these days: spray, gel, mousse, etc. She may be using any combination of those to get the affect she wants.

I'll use a little something to give my hair a bit of lift at the roots to avoid the dreaded flat head look, but not enough of anything that affects how the hair feels or moves. I very rarely use hairspray. Whenever I get my hair cut, I always seem to have to battle with the hairdresser not to put gobs of goop in my hair (and if I lose, then I stick my head under the bathtub faucet and wash it out when I get home...lol).

I don't see women in general the age of your girlfriend having structured 'dos or helmet hair, but I don't know anything about her cultural background and such and that could be something that factors in here.

You may just have to live with this until you are spending the kind of intimate and casual time together where you are with her in the morning when she's getting out the shower and putting herself together for the day... Right now, it may make her feel a little more confident to have "every hair in place" when she she greets you.
