I don't know why I am asking this and I think I probably already know the answer, but what is y'all's take on a guy putting a shirtless photo in his profile? For me, it's a turn-off. Not sure why guys feel the need to do that and usually it's an automatic "close" for me because I think it's a bit too much in a "look at me!" or "hey baby, you want some of this?"sort of way.

Well, I've reached OC with a match who has seemed pretty nice so far. He told me he was going to be putting up more pics soon because he had just come back from vacation (the location was not one where I'd expect any shirtless photos to be taken). So he has updated his profile and removed two of the original photos, replacing one with a pic of his sister and her family and the other is of him shirtless with one of those marathon/triathlon number tags pinned to his shorts. He is, of course, very fit and should be proud of that, but the pic is not really of him participating in the race. It's more of a close-up to show off how buff/ripped/whatever he is. It kind of bothered me and I'm not sure what to think now. I'm getting the feeling he's one of those guys who thinks he's really hot and wants the rest of the world to know it, too.

Thoughts?

This is what I call double standard because if a female were to do that...she's being a you know what. I would tell that guy...thanks for some mystery...Not! He must be young because they like showing off their buff bods. The older they get, the less they show off because lack of upkeep. Then again...I must say...don't judge. Are you attracted to him? If yes, awesome! Have you talked to him yet? If not, do it because he could turn out to be a nice guy. You never know.

For me, it's more about context ...

If the guy is clearly on vacation (i.e. scuba diving, group shot on the beach, etc.) or other shirtless-appropriate context, then it doesn't bother me too much. So, your example of a guy running a marathon probably wouldn't be a big deal to me.

But when they post a pic that they clearly took for the express purpose of posting -- i.e the all-too-common posing half-naked in a bathroom mirror while taking a photo of yourself - then yes, it icks me out no end.

Hey, don't be hating on us older guys. I'm on a new fitness regimen, and my goal is to be in the best shape of my life by October. At that point I was contemplating taking some shirtless pics in front of my Mini-Van.

Unless he's clearly enjoying a day at the beach or the pool the shirtless picture is a turn off for me. That and any picture taken in front of the bathroom mirror = FAIL.
