What a nice thread and such great comments...

I don't know about the rest of you (and I know some have no problem with it) but it is hard for me to enjoy e-dating - it just seems too odd to just meet random strangers with the idea in mind of eventually mating. I have no problem meeting random strangers but to do so with the goal of finding just the right random stranger is just odd to me and I have a hard time with it (the idea of it).

(And I know it works - I just visited with a friend of mine that just had her second child. She met her husband seven years ago on (egads!) the internet. - Hey, it was pre-norm.)

I was married for 15 years. My divorced took 6 weeks from start to finish. I had no desire to date for a long time, and I felt that my kids needed me more than I needed to get involved again. I also took some time to figure out who I was, who I wanted to be, and how to get there.

As much effort as I put into myself, the idea of being vulnerable again scared the heck out of me. I had no desire to go through the pain I had just gotten over. That being said, I realized the only way to get what I wanted was to just get out there and do it. Cold Turkey so to speak. Without risk there is no reward. It was awkward and weird and even frustrating sometimes. But I kept at it. The important thing was that I had other things in my life that kept me fullfilled as well. I didn't wake up in the morning with the only purpose of finding a mate. Eventually I met someone who made it all worth it. There's no quick fix in my experience except to just do it.

I know what you mean Lizzie!
I'm trying to keep up with the generation by giving it a try. It's certainly a great resource that allows much greater exposure. There are other pro's of course, but I still prefer meeting people in real life and allowing a relationship to develop without the pressure of "dating" right from the start. Maybe we are just old-fashioned

It is so complicated, ya'll, and it doesn't even have to be.

If it feels weird to think of it that way, then don't. Just think of it as meeting people that you may have enough in common with to see again. I've been told it's most likely when you stop looking that you find the thing that you're looking for.
