What's there to be jittery about?

Just make sure you shave your legs in case you get lucky.

Liquor and Ativan... lots of it!

Actually
Meet some place casual and PUBLIC. I tend to like the chatty Starbuck coffee dates. No reciprocation or obligation involved. If you find the person interesting, the date can last a couple hours or you two can transition to dinner that night. Really, I don't like dinner dates. The reason, if I like the person I'll get butterflies in my stomach and if I don't like the person I'll get nautious.

I try to approach first dates as an experiment and a learning opportunity. It takes the pressure off. I like to exercise or find ways to release pent-up energy prior to the date. In my experience, sometimes if you try too hard things don't work out.

If you want to convey interest, ask questions. Communication is a two way street. The last date I went on, I had felt that I knew a ton about her; however, I really didn't feel there was much reciprocation and she knew very little about me...oh well.

If you enjoy yourself send a text later on so the guy can assess your interest.

Good luck!

So, would there be vomit involved in either case?

Relax, enjoy and be yourself. He might warrant a second date, he might be a friend (I have a few of those from EH dates), and he might be a dud. But have fun, learn something and relax and be yourself... that happily who you are. I agree with above, ask questions and offer up bits about who you are, if you wish to.

Enjoy the fun of it. Worst case is you have a funny story for your friends!

Laughter helps to dispel the nervousness and the jitters.

Be yourself.

Keep the conversation 2 way...

Smile.

Try to make the date a casual one. Maybe a lunch or a walk in the park, etc. You can also have a time limit (or say you have to be somewhere at a certain time.) This way if it's a dud date, you can skip away at an early time.

Remember its' only a job interview, er I mean date. Try to get him talking about his hobby/ies or interests. That way you can calm down some and get him to open up.

Good luck! Let us know how it turned out. When is it?

Wow some of those are rather funny, Tweet and KungFuFtr, but honestly if you went through all your communications on eHarmony already, you should know who he is, what to expect (for the most part). I actually think the best part about a first date is picking the place, though that may already have been done for you, or you've done it together, I hope you've picked somewhere you know and are comfortable with, that way you can ignore worrying about the food, atmosphere and noise, and get to talking.

Personally when I was doing my first few after starting back up, I went over my friends house, and borrowed his wife to practice some chit chat, she made all the knots go away, because she asked good questions, and some came up the next day. Plus being over the friends house gave me an instant distraction from my own brain worrying. I'm not sure it was about being prepared with answers, as you should already know yourself, but having good ways to word your answers and feeling comfortable instead of nervous is what it sounds like you need. Friends kick butt, use them (and let them use you, as a resource you freaks... lol). ^_^
