Come a certain age, it starts to be ridiculous to have to refer to a full-grown man as your BOYfriend. I can't very well say Manfriend, that's just too insane. I dislike the ubiquitous "friend" to describe someone special and the term "lover" is not a great thing to say in front of kids and colleagues and I don't like that term anyway. "Partner" makes me feel like I'm either talking business or covering for being ghey (next thing you know I'll be saying "they" instead of s/he!)


So what do we call them then?


And what are they to call us? (Besides gorgeous of course)

Seriously though, I believe that FruitaBu is correct...Significant Other seems to be the new Black in relationship terms.
