Come a certain age, it starts to be ridiculous to have to refer to a full-grown man as your BOYfriend. I can't very well say Manfriend, that's just too insane. I dislike the ubiquitous "friend" to describe someone special and the term "lover" is not a great thing to say in front of kids and colleagues and I don't like that term anyway. "Partner" makes me feel like I'm either talking business or covering for being ghey (next thing you know I'll be saying "they" instead of s/he! )

So what do we call them then?

And what are they to call us? (Besides gorgeous of course)
"Partner" to me is orientation-neutral; it does, however, imply a big commitment. I'd wait until I was living with someone to call them a "partner."

I guess boyfriend/girlfriend is still it, although I've always liked how gods and goddesses have "consorts." I could actually see myself introducing someone as my "consort." If I ever have anyone to introduce in that way, that is!

I try to avoid labels, but instead would just introduce my 'maybe' bf simply by name:

"This is ____." Then I'd announce loudly to everyone that he 'completes me!'

I'm concerned I may slip up and say my escort instead of my consort!

I told my neice and nefew that they should call me Auntie Gorgeous. It worked for a long time until they told their mothers that was my name. I call all the men in my inner circle... Sweetie or Hon. There fore the guy I am seeing is My Sweetie.
