I said I was going to take a break from online dating after my recent breakup. But I broke down, got curious, and signed up for a quick 1 month eH membership just to see what types of matches I get these days.

I ended up getting 40 or so matches the first week. I closed most of them.

Almost every single match were all saying they wanted to travel around the world and wanted a guy to take them. Almost every match stated in some way they wanted to travel around the world.

Is "travel around the world"the new buzzword these days ? I just dont have the vacation time and money to travel that much right now. I am up for weekend trips here and there to go skiing, camping,or go to Vegas or Disney Land or the beach in Cali.

It seemed like the tone in most of these profiles was a requirement the guy has to want to travel a lot.

bwr--maybe it is a "one day" dream of theirs and not immediate plans to find a guy to set out and see the world immediately? Maybe you can find out in OC what this really means. I think within a profile, there is so little space and it is a brief glimpse of a person, so something like that might seem to have more immediate importance than it really does.

I am of course guessing, but I have a desire to travel, and I do, but it is within the limitations of my vacation time each year and affordability to see one place at a time throughout my life as opposed to ditching my job foran expensiveworld tour.

Two ways to read this …

“[/b]Almost every single match were all saying they wanted to travel around the world and wanted a guy to take them.”[/b]

And shovel great wads of money into them, as coal into a boiler.

“[/b]Almost every match stated in some way they wanted to travel around the world.”[/b]

Or, it is a pleasure many accomplished people share, and would prefer to share with their special someone.

But, how to tell them apart?

What age group are you looking at? That sounds like a pretty common thing for girls 20-30. People are either, already settled or wanting to experience life to its fullest before starting a family, meaning traveling the world. It's part of that whole, "well rounded individual" thing that we place so much importance on. I don't know anyone that doesn't want to travel.

Ha, Ha!! I am just reading a new match as I speak.

In the "One thing I am looking for from a guy" section, she states" I will be honest, I want to meet a guy with money and who has the free time to travel". She claims to be a secretary and is about average looking in her pictures.

This is too funny!

Another thing I can think of regarding this, is that women like to be romanced and taken care of. There are a lot of women who think that's what men SHOULD do.

Thankfully, they announce themselves, and can be avoided.

I'll give her credit at least she's honest. The rest you have to read between the lines and do some decodingto figure out thats what they want, luckily I've become a pro at it :P

I get it too bwr. In my situation..it honestly scares the **** out of me.

My job is about 40% travel as is. When I get home, I really want to feel the grass grow underneath my feet for a while before I head out again. To be honest, I haven't taken a vacation other than to go visit my parents in 5 years. That doesn't mean I don't want to take a vacation..being single I have no one to travel with so it doesn't sound like much fun to go wonder Europe alone. Travelling is going to be expensive, even if my flights are free because of my airline miles. One planned trip a year is fine, but when you put it as a 'hobby', you make it sound like you are jet-setting once a month. Retired wealthy need only apply?

But like D_Lion said...I think a lot of women put it down to make them sound sophisticated and not a home-body..aka, not dull. In actuality, it makes them sound extremely high maintenance and I can't keep up.

Becca--I'm looking at 35-42 olds. Travel still comes a lot there too.

It's the same with "cooking". I try really hard not to over-eat and cut down on calories. I'm at my college weight and trying to get down to my high school weight. One cooking enthusiast could destroy me! Cooking may appeal to a lot of guys, but at this point in my life....back off temptress!

Well, I am looking for someone within 5 years of my age (late 30's to early 40's), but of course we all know how eH likes to match us with people out of our age range and geographical preferences. So yes, lots ots of my matches were between 20-30. But there were several in their 40's who pushed travel, too.

I am burned out of travel and settled, but still get spontaneous urges to get out and go places, so I guess I am somewhere in the middle and want it both ways. I am already settled but always want to experience life to the fullest. I would be nice to meet someone that shares the same open, flexible mind I do.

Funny thing when I was young, I had even less money and vacation time to travel the world. So I have always had to be creative with my time. I honestly don't understand how some of these young ladies have the time and money to travel as much as they say they do or want to. Something just doesn't add up. Not all of us get internships to Europe out of college or get business travel to Asia. Some of us have to wail till closer to retirement to travel a lot.
I am not a big fan of airplane travel nowdays because I am a big guy with long legs and the airplane seats are really cramped, and since I have already traveled a lot when I was younger and lived all over the world as an Army brat kid, the traveling bug doesn't get to me much anymore.
