Other good topics to cover: Dating horror stories, family dysfunction (my personal fave) and new year's resolutions - to have them or not!?

I don't know. Topics like this seem too "interviewish" to me and put me instinctively on the defensive, like those get-acquainted activities foisted on us at inservices and conferences. Yuck. My response is usually stilted and awkward, because I can't think of quick, graceful answers, even with people I already know. Adding the stress of a first date would make things even worse!

I’m sorry, but it is clear that the top five conversation starters are:
1. Paying on the date.
2. Poofer!
3. Why you gotta put the photo from 10 years / 100 lbs ago?
4. Should I e-mail, cause he didn’t e-mail, and it’s been 2 days?
5. I was dumped. Was it because I slept with him?

LOL! Yes, those are all great topics. Here are some more that would help you and your date get to know each other much better than "my ideal day" quizzes:

1. Abortion

2. Gun control

3. Same sex marriage

4. Stem cell research

5. Nuclear power plants

Bonus subject: Should male babies be circumcised?

If the two of you can diswcuss these without killing each other or having strokes, then maybe the match is a good one.

Since I love nature, I usually ask if they have grown the plant that MOVES when you Tickle it!

Usually I get an odd look and they tend not to believe the TickleMe Plant is a real plant that closes its leaves when tickled. It's a great conversation starter, and since I have one that is like a pet to me, I love to talk about it. It also makes a very romantic gift and a sure way to tickle their heart. I found seeds and low cost greenhouse to grow one indoors at http://www.ticklemeplant.com It even produces pink cotton candy like flowers.
