Do you prefer a man who is unafraid to express raw intense emotion? Does having too much passion frighten those who possess a lesser degree? Please weigh in with your opinions.

I would assume that the "raw intense emotion" doesn't include beating the snot out of the lady!

Can you provide some specifics? I am just not surewhat you mean by "raw intense emotion".

Do I want a guy that is going to sob with me when I watch Shadowlands? - No

Do I want a guy that is going to tear up when his kid graduates school or his daughter gets married? - Yes

I usually put up some defenses if a guy is saying "I love you" or giving off that vibe too early. Those guys are usually the ones who give their heart away too easily and not the kind that you can depend on. Thats just from experience and watching friends go through similar experiences. As far as the ability to get sad about things/situations that are sad, or happy when the situation merits it then that is a good thing. Mostly it is a healthy thing. I think withdrawing and being angry 99% stems from not expressing emotions appropriately.

As with most things, there are shades of gray. I want a man with emotional balance.

I do not want a guy to share his deepest, most painful secrets and end up, inconsolable,in a pool of his own tears on the 1st date. Good Lord, that was awkward!

However, I alsodo not want a guy who is so cold that he will not cry at his own grandfather's funeral (especially when faced with his mother who is crying because it's her father who died). I had to give her a hug because her husband and son were too busy making "dead jokes" to avoid displaying emotion. We were still in the church; the man wasn't even in the ground yet. Ugh!

It's not a Yes or No question. It's not an On or Off question. It's a question of balance.

Wow, it sounds like both of those are real examples. You sure have experienced both extreme ends of the emotion spectrum, haven't you??

I still would like clarification from Rhythmicsoul. What exactly are you referring to and do you mean while in a committed relationship??
