I have an issue with the ones that glorify infidelity. Bridges of Madison County , or The English Patient , for a couple of examples that were turned into film.

I loved the English Patient, not because I glorify infidelity, but because movies where the protagonists have perfect characters are too simplistic, linear and therefore too boring for my taste. The English Patient emphasizes character flaws of some of its protagonists and how guilty and wrong some of them felt because of that. The Katherine character, for example, realized her husband loved her deeply, which was why she felt very guilty about the affair that was difficult to avoid after they were trapped in the sandstorm alone. So she later ended the affair even though she was very much in love with the other man (which also seemed to be more of her caliber) and they only got reunited later due to the crash. The movie purposedly portrayed her husband as an ideal husband so it intentionally portrayed her as an ungrateful woman in that respect.

To me, characters in movies or literary works with flaws are much more interesting because they are more human and diverse. In a way, they let me virtually have those flaws and experience the often disastrous consequences. I personally think guilt is one of the most powerful and lasting emotion, which is the main source of despair in several of the movie's characters. And you saw how eventually each bad character got what they deserved by the end of the movie, not through divine intervention but simply because those actions they had chosen to do logically would have serious consequences.

Bridges of Madison County, however, was definitely not my kind of movie, because the husband was not supposed to be a good guy for her, so my rating of that movie is "Yuck" even though it also portrays infidelity. That movie tried to justify her action, and therefore her character, and that made it a movie that will put me, personally, to sleep

The End of the Affair, Eyes Wide Shut, Unfaithful, and The Thorn Birds also touch on the fallout from infidelity. You really don't need a microscope to see and appreciate the morality in American movies.

What I find funny about the male/female thing is that the phrase "locker room" talk refers to guys spilling the beans about their encounters. My experience is that guys really do not share details like the girls do. I know things about my friends'SOs that I really, really should not know!!!

I really do not think guys understand how much us ladies talk about when it comes to some details about you. I think it would really make you guys blush!

I really think this is people-dependent, and not a gender-specific thing. I genuinely don't know any guys or girls who do this. I certainly have zero intention of discussing my physical relationships with anyone other than the guy I'm with. And with regard to the male (and female for that matter) friends that I have, I'd be shocked if I ever discovered they were talking about their encounters with other men.

Uh-Oh!!! That means it is just me and my girlfriends that dish the dirt (or maybe it is an English vs American thing?). Either way, how so embarrassing to be caught like this.

trust me, you arent alone.....its one of the reasons sex in the city was so popular, it hits close to home.

I swim regularly - two to three times per week. You wouldn't believe some of the things women talk about in the locker room.

By the way, I'm glad we can fix spelling mistakes now.

Women do it, too, folks. Just wanted to get the topic out there, and stop some of the man-bashing in the sister thread.

o I want to have his baby.

o There goes my new husband.

o I wish I was his boxer shorts.

o etc.

And women have stacks of romance novels chock full of dirty-minded "romance" scenes. Oh, yeah, I've read all about members and wild abandon, so your secret's out.

Point is, I don't like topics that are so gharishly sexist. Women can be just as crude and thoughtless as guys, and I don't consider it a gender flaw, so much as someone's personality.

I agree, I have heard from guys I have dated in the past who talk about women who behave with a piggish attitude towards men. They don't like it either.

I also have a problem with women who fuss about men looking at porn, but fail to see the sexually explicit romance books as being of the same vein. Both create thoughts in the largest sex organ--the brain.

Thanks for posting this thread.

I'll concede this point, even if I don' know Dusty. I assume he/she/it was a comedic poster.

But when I see folks ganging up and chunking rocks, I pick one up and throw itback.

And DustyJo is a very nice young lady who alwaysstarted positive and fun threads. We've just not seen her in a while.
