Hey all you nice single people on eHA...

We singles (or divorced, separated, partner-less...) can be lonely in ways that I don't think the coupled up of the world understand. I live alone, a few hours' drive from my family, and my close friends here are all married or in LTRs. And I'm currently trying to balance two jobs, so my work schedules are all over the place. So all of you other single people who are probably in similar situations...what do you do?

Here are my own ideas:

(1) Don't be afraid to call up the friends I do have; if our schedules don't permit us to get together, at least we can e-mail or call.

(2) Sign up for the photography course at my local community center.

(3) Get more involved in my faith community again--I let it slide 'cause I moved away for a while--meet some like-minded people there.

Got any other suggestions?

I say do all 3. Im in the same boat that you are in. i live alone and have an occupation with bizzarre hours. so I joined a tennis club, and just try to keep in contact with my old friends. But you got to get out and meet some new people and that photography course is more than likely the first step. you may meet somene there you find intersting.

i'm not sure why you're living alone - you're a little hottie!!! and i'm sure there's a lot to do up in canada such as the great outdoors and visiting all the cities over there.

i hate to admit this but... i like living by myself so, i guess i can't really answer your question.

I live alone. And I'm shy! I've been told I come across as unapproachable because of this. Trying to work on it...but it's not easy!

So I've thought about joining classes or something to meet people...but at the same time I probably wouldn't be approached...tough call!

Buy a 50 pound bag of peanut M&M's, drag it into my bed, hide under the covers, and cry endlessly out of lonliness while gaining pound after pound!

Seriously: I counteract lonliness with socializationamong live people. I don't find myselffeeling lonely much since I know I am never alone. (It's a God thing.)

i agree with IIMH about never feeling lonely (minus the god part). there's a difference between feeling lonely and enjoying tranquility of solitude.

Getting out there and participating in life chases those blues away, that's for sure. I'm alone, but not "lonely" all the time. My life is filled with friends and activities and of course I'm self employed . . . busy is in my DNA lol! I have close friends and I "choose" to spend time alone at times because it replenishes me and I need that time to write music and lyrics as well. Being alone is a creative outlet. I would love to have someone to share personal time with but it's not a quest for the Holy Grail. If I connect with someone in the midst of living my life, I'll be a happy camper. I think it's more comfortable for me to do itthis way then going through men like water. I like taking my time and being lonely does creep up on me but I don't let it run my life. Time is just too precious anymore.
